We had the good fortune of connecting with Adolphus & Bridget Scott and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Adolphus & Bridget, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Playing it safe was only going to be just that…. safe! But taking a risk, walking in unfamiliar territory, not feeling prepared for the unknown, the what- if’s or asking if this is the right time, those type of thoughts that force you to put breaks on those things that you are so passionate about. Yes, you may even get rejected for it. But to sum it all up, it’s wrapped in fear. When we allowed fear to overtake us, we made zero progress. We focused our attention on the day to day responsibilities that couldn’t be ignored, but thankfully there are special people whom God uses to encourage so that we’d overcome and go forth.
Taking risks with our business in fashion styling, has taught us to keep pushing, avoiding the halt when it gets hard or even when feeling overwhelmed. Take time to regroup, set goals and get back to work. God has not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
We are AB Scott & Co., A husband and wife team that defines a new form of artistry through creativity and style. We have the God-given ability to integrate zeal, originality, and purpose which brings a rare authenticity and presence that set us apart from others. We are certified and trained personal stylists, compassionate, and truly enjoy what we do; We create strong, unique and distinct looks to help others appear and feel their absolute best!
Our journey here was not without trial and error. We had to make adjustments in order to increase clientele. We grew as a couple, as parents and now as business partners. Well, we are still growing and learning.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Wow, we would take them to an amusement park!! Just kidding. Even though we love amusement parks, there isn’t one in the RDU area.
Places to eat, we’d say; Capital Grill in the North Hills area of Raleigh. the Morgan Street Food Hall in Downtown Raleigh, Cafe’ Luna Italian Restaurant, Sullivan’s Steak House, Rey’s Restaurant, Angus Barn and Fiction Kitchen, just to name a few! We can’t leave out our favorite food truck and catering services which are Caribbean Kicker, Goodness Grace Us and the Waffee Wagon.
Downtown Raleigh has an abundance of activities for anyone to enjoy; all ages. There’s the IMAX theater, Kids Marble Museum, Raleigh Convention Center events, Seasonal festivals, there are also multiple events occurring throughout the year at the NC State fairgrounds. The PNC arena also has a great variety of scheduled events.
Oh and for relaxation, we have to say, the Umstead Hotel and Spa and State Park!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
We’d like to dedicate our shoutout to our foundation, who are our parents. And also, our fashion mentor, Mrs. Sonya Barnes.
