We had the good fortune of connecting with Adean Kingston, MD and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Adean, what do you think makes you most happy? Why?
I find that the older I get, the easier it is to find happiness in the everyday simple pleasures of life. I love mornings when you can sleep in, a really good cup of coffee or glass of wine, cuddling with my two persian cats, a great pilates work out, cooking a delicious meal or binge watching netflix (like everyone)! Aside from the daily simple pleasures, I derive a lot of happiness from my career as a Dermatologist and business owner. I think I have a really fun job (most of the time?) It is both challenging and rewarding and really suites my personality and skill set. I value friendships and family and enjoy spending time with them over a great meal or on a fascinating trip somewhere. I definitely consider myself to be an avid world traveler and love planning the next great trip. I consider myself to be a generally happy person and am very fortunate for that.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a Board Certified Dermatologist and owner of my own medical practice. It has definitely been a long and difficult journey to get to where I am today, but certainly worth all of the trials and tribulations. I am really proud of the fact that I financially put myself through all 14 years of higher education, albeit with many student loans and scholarships, It truly has been an investment in myself and I believe that is the best investment there is. I also started my own medical practice 7 years ago and it has really meant a lot to me to create this business and be a solo female owner. I love being my own boss, running a business and taking care of patients!

Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
I love having friends and family come to Dallas and enjoy everything this great place has to offer!! As many people know Dallas is a restaurant and shopping city, and so I love to share my favorite places to eat with visitors. We love starting of the day by going to brunch. A few of my favorite places to bring guests for brunch are Grange Hall, Rise, on the patio at Parigi, The Mansion, and Cafe Toulouse. Walking the Katy Trail is always a must, and stopping in at the Katy Trail Ice House on the way back for a frozen Sangria and burger is always a hit. If it is not good weather for the trail, we will shop! I love Neiman Marcus and for a bite to eat while shopping there, we always stop in the Zodiac. Same with 4510! Fantastic shopping and Mirador their restaurant is one of my absolutely favorite restaurants in Dallas. I think everyone in Dallas loves happy hour at lounge 31 and at MiCo with a mamba taxi or two! My favorite dinner destinations are Nobu, Tei An, Townhearth, Bullion, Al Biernats, and The Charles. I do love trying new restaurants all the time, and so I will often take visitors to hot new restaurants!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I was raised solely by my mother and grandparents and from a very early age, I was encouraged to work hard and treat people the way you want to be treated. These simple life lessons have carried me far and I am grateful for them everyday. In medical school at the University of Pittsburgh, I met my career mentors- Drs. Louis Falo, Larisa Geskin and John Kirkwood. These doctors took the time to mentor me and ensure that I would get into a top Dermatology Residency program. I truly believe that I couldn’t have become the Dermatologist I am today without their guidance.
