How did you come up with the idea for your business?

It takes a lot more than an idea to build a business, but there can’t be a business without the idea. So we asked folks who’ve built wonderful businesses to tell us about how they came up with the idea in the first place.

After teaching childbirth classes for two years, I saw the need for more postpartum support. We have a reunion about 6 weeks after the last baby in the class is born, and when we went around sharing birth stories and struggles, postpartum resources were a constant disconnect! Read more>>

I grew up in a musical family a with my mom being a singer and my dad a pianist so music has been a massive part of my life since I was young. When I was 15 years old I started helping a friend learn guitar and I really loved working with her. It opened my mind to idea of starting a business through music so I could do what I loved. The idea for the business came from my own personal experience and need. My husband and I were having a small get together a few years ago . As the evening began, I was running to get the door, make sure the food was being replenished and yelling at my husband to top off drinks for our guests. As musicians, we found it difficult to find opportunities to further ourselves and get our names out there. Especially in the days when a project is starting up and trying to gain momentum. When starting a project, or even starting off, musicians may find it difficult to locate a place to openly play for an audience.
