We had the good fortune of connecting with Grant Adler and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Grant, is there something you believe many others might not?
I strongly disagree with the Hustler mindset/Grind mentality. Not to say that hard work isn’t a key to success, but rather that the kind of work you’re doing should be calculated and focused in order to really see big movement forwards. In terms of the 80/20 principle, I would argue that 20% of the work laid out for you is what really makes a difference and drives the needle forward- so if you can focus 100% of your efforts on that 20% of work that’s actually important, that will make a much larger difference than just grinding or hustling through everything laid out in front of you.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I produce music which combines genres like Funk and Hip Hop with Rock and Indie Pop to create new types of sound- both in the form of my own songs as an artist, as well as instrumentals I produce for other music groups. I support myself financially through recording and mixing vocals for rap artists, which allows me to keep my body of work completely inside the music world. Only since 2021 have I been able to rely on this system full time, whereas before then I still needed both full and part time jobs. It’s never been easy, but I think what has kept me going so far is having faith in my vision. Only through believing that my end goals are achievable do I find the motivation to put in the work needed to be successful. I also had to learn to recognize what success looks like, which is just as important. I put in the work to reach my end goal, but am grateful for the countless smaller, more subtle ways in which success actually takes form.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
For the DFW area, I would mostly stick with the Deep Ellum scene in Dallas and the 7th street area in Fort Worth. These are my go-to spots for live music, good food, and a solid club scene. I would likely take them to the Stockyards once or twice, as well, and maybe have a lake day in Grapevine or Lewisville.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I am extremely lucky and grateful to have been raised in an environment which both allowed and encouraged an independent lifestyle free from conventional ideas. I would not have been brave enough to work a creative industry, otherwise. For this I thank my family for the extensive (and even irrational) love and support. Also thanks to The 6 Figure Creative podcast and The Go-Giver book for the priceless guidance and mentorship needed to navigate the music and business worlds. Lastly and most importantly, I would not be here today if not for the grace of God. While I’m not a very religious man, I’ve been rescued too many times to take credit for myself.
