We had the good fortune of connecting with Amber Brown and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Amber, as a parent, what do you feel is the most meaningful thing you’ve done for them?
Honestly, I think its teaching them the morals and values that my parents have instilled in me (hard work, kindness, empathy, persistence and faith to just name a few). I think that as a parent it’s good to have your “own” parenting style, it helps to have a guide that you can reference from your childhood. Something that you can look back on and add to or take away with your own children. I have three boys so any recommendations from my parents I definitely take into consideration.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I grew up in my mom’s store. I would do the window displays, go to Dallas market with her, antique shopping, endless fabric stores, Roundtop road trips and be a tag along on many, many design appointments she had. What was just “hanging out” with my mom turned into a passion of design. I am definitely all about the “pretty things” in life. I think design has many outlets and I have combined all of those into Five B Co. It’s all the things that I love and that is making people’s homes or business something that they are proud of each day when they walk in. The process of being the little shop girl to the business owner was and still is not easy but it’s a love that I have and that I feel proud of!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Wow, well there is so many places in the Dallas- Fort Worth area that are amazing! I would start by taking her to get something sweet at Cretia’s in Bishops Art District. By far the BEST cupcakes ever, that is always been my families go to for any occasion. Then probably shopping then manicures and pedicures then lunch at Paradiso.
I love old movies and if she’s my best friend she will too so we could go to the Palace Theatre in Grapevine Texas and see a movie then more shopping. Probably stop in little orange fish for our babies and finish the night off with a steak at Mac’s on Main.
The rest of the week would probably be the same. Visit the John Wayne Museum in Fort Worth and eat a Pacific Table. Visit the Botanical gardens and view the Japanese Gardens. Then back to Dallas for the Arboretum! It would definitely be a great week with my best friend showing her the wonderful things in DFW.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Hands down my mom! I definitely do not have to think twice. She has shaped who I am from the start. Her consistent love, prayers, and emotional support have helped me every step of the way. I grew up watching her as an independent, hard-working entrepreneur. It always amazed me how she could take care of me and my three sisters and yet still have a career that she loved and was successful in. I now know with kids of my own how difficult that was for her, but she made it look effortless.
