We had the good fortune of connecting with Elyse Jewel and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Elyse, what’s the most important lesson your business/career has taught you?
I have learned to trust myself. It was tough to find my voice, but slowly, I realized that I am in charge of my career, not anybody else. I have come to find myself in every sense and have realized the sounds that feel most genuinely me.

By being able to speak up for me, I have grown in confidence and evolved as both a person and an artist.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Ever since I can remember I have wanted to be involved in music. My dad introduced me to the likes of Eric Clapton and The Beatles, and my aunt showed me musical theater and show tunes. These heavily influenced my ever-growing love for music. As a young girl, I had always dreamed of being recognized for my own music, and the JLSC allowed that dream to come true. Having my first single “Thinking About You” win Pop Song of the Year was a mind-blowing moment for me because, at that moment, I knew that people enjoyed my sound and wanted to hear what I had to say.

However, I have struggled with my own mental health for years and haven’t found an outlet that allows me to express myself better than music. Writing and singing out my feelings truly makes vocalizing my feelings to others easier. The topic surrounding mental health is a very stigmatized one, and hopefully, with my music, I can help people feel less alone and more connected. I try to shed some advice in each of my songs through the lessons I’ve learned and prove to people that they have so much worth. I plan on making sure that my fanbase always remains connected with me and knows just how special they are.

I am very excited to announce my latest release “Tbh Idk.” Throughout the song, I tell the story of how I was led on for months by a guy who simply said, “tbh idk” when I asked what we were. It was definitely disappointing, to say the least; however, I took what he said and made a song I hope everyone can relate to.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I absolutely love M Donuts, so we would definitely have to stop there in the mornings. We’d for sure have to stop by State Street Coffee and then take a walk through the arboretum. I love just admiring nature and hearing all of its peaceful sounds. I would definitely take them to crystal shops and then take them back to my house to meet my baby golden, Willow, and watch movies!!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My mom has been an amazing support. She has been next to me every step of the way and never fails to offer me advice and help. Through thick and thin, my mom has always been there for me and is truly my #1 person.
