We had the good fortune of connecting with Christina Scalera and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Christina, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Soon after I landed my “dream job” out of school, I had a crushing realization as I woke up, showered, and went through the motions of getting ready for the day: this was it. This was my entire life from now on. Get ready, go to work, come home and look forward to a few fun weekends every year. That was completely unacceptable to me and I was not willing to live the rest of my life that way. I started looking for alternative careers, and fell into blogging. I tried several blog topics until one finally took off, and I added products to my blog because it was already a built-in feature on the website template I had. Little did I know, this wasn’t common, and it’s created my entire career of both continuing to sell those products, and now to teach people how I am doing it successfully.

What should our readers know about your business?
My coaching business is ChristinaScalera.com, and it it informed by my online D-Commerce® store The Contract Shop® that sells legal templates for online entrepreneurs.

As a coach, I see many people spitting back out the same information they took in the day before. I waited for years to start my coaching business until my shop was consistently and predictably bringing in income without me running it because first, this is what I coach people how to do, and I wanted to be sure I had my money where my mouth is.

And second, because by speaking from my own experience, I knew everything I had to share and teach would be unique. For example, I registered D-Commerce® as a trademark to distinguish my unique method of selling: namely, by putting digital download products up for sale through an online storefront instead of a funnel. I’m super proud of coming up with this way to sell things, and of the results I’ve been able to help my coaching clients get in their own D-Commerce® stores.

Running your own D-Commerce® store can be as easy or as hard as you want it to be. For everyone, it’s always more work up front to get it set up. I see the people who are only in it for a quick buck fade out quickly after their interest wanes. However for my clients who truly want ultimate control over their time, creating a D-Commerce® store is almost always the best option.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I am actually the best friend visiting– I live in Denver now (and soon my husband’s job is moving us to Washington state), but my family all lives in and around Dallas so I’m there often. Every time I’m in town, I always stop by Sprinkles cupcakes. I don’t eat sugar anymore, but I make an exception for one cupcake the every-other-month or so that I’m in Dallas. If I have friends I take them to the ATM. I’m always surprised by how many people don’t know what Sprinkles is! One of my favorite restaurants, Taverna, is right next to the West Plano Sprinkles so it makes for a really nice afternoon when I’m visiting.

If I’m feeling nostalgic I’ll venture over to the Heard Natural Science Museum & Wildlife Sanctuary for a hike, since my best friend growing up lived next door. We used to sneak in from a creek to see the birds when we were around 10 years old. Sorry Heard! I’ve since paid many times over for our “free use” of those facilities back in the day.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My two core team members are my best friends and biggest cheerleaders, and buoy the business when I’m having an off week– Nicole Boucher (NBoucher.com) and Latasha Doyle (Uncanny Content) are what make my businesses run so beautifully.
