Hi Steph, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
“I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” -Maya Angelou
I recently discovered this quote on an advertisement and it spoke to me because one of my good friends had just passed a few days prior, RIP JCode🕊 and I surround myself with people like myself, good people. This quote reminds me to always be genuinely kind to others because one thing about us as humans, we’ll never forget the way someone made us feel with their actions and words.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a choreographer/dancer born and raised in Dallas, Tx. and a first generation American. I am huge on networking and only surrounding myself with likeminded individuals as well as being my most authentic self, which is what got me to where I am today professionally. Nothing good comes easy, I have had to work pro bono, deal with bs, have long days and nights, and be rejected by people that could help put me on the map, but it’s okay because I learned from all of those situations. I am such a hard worker and I train basically every day in dance. You have to make sacrifices to get where you’re trying to go, but you never stop pushing yourself to do better and in the end your win will feel even better!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Ironically enough, I am not a fan of going outside unless I’m celebrating something. I do enjoy bowling, going out to eat, and doing spontaneous activities. I would take them to Select Start in Deep Ellum, Cheddars, Hattie B’s, Pluckers, AMF, Axe Throwing, and other places I can’t think of right now lol. TikTok is the best way to find fun things to do!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Shoutout to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for everything and every situation He’s put me in to get where I am today as well as where He’s about to take me. I also want to shoutout my friends that are my family, specifically Evan Jones, Domanique King, Tinu Adeshola, Malik Edwards, Ubong Daniel, and Blessing Okwuolisa, for constantly supporting and pushing me to be the best version of myself.
