We had the good fortune of connecting with DeAndre Nevels and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi DeAndre, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
In high school, I was in the yearbook club where I did Photography and Graphic Design. Which I enjoyed it very much and had a passion for. After I graduated high school I worked at many food industry and 9-5 corporate jobs that never really worked out for me. Not only was I doing something I did not like to do or saw myself doing long-term, but all of this didn’t provide the financial stability that I truly needed at the time. Something inside of me always told me to go after what I loved to do and that was everything in general with media. I took a leap of faith and began Nevels Media with my wife officially in 2018 and although it was rough at the beginning, it started growing.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Nevels Media is a Photography, Videography business. What sets us a part from other businesses is that it’s not just a interracial owned business but it’s also a dream team. My wife Jazmine and I enjoy working together because we already have a flow when it comes to weddings, events or special creative projects. The thing that I’m most proud of is that we hosted our very first wedding styled shoot event and it was successful. This year 2022, we began doing destination weddings and we’re very excited about that. We have went to Mexico, Boston, North Carolina and next is Florida and Jamaica. We got to where we are today by taking steps of faith, overcoming fears, making wise financial decisions and surrounding ourselves by people who you find inspiring or are going where you want to be. It’s not easy, you will encounter challenge after challenge but as long as you have a positive mindset and seek advice from someone you trust it will be easy to overcome those challenges. I would like for the world to know that chasing your dreams is worth it! The life that you have envisioned for yourself is only one decision away. To not just dream. But DO IT!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We live in the big and lovely city of Dallas, TX. There’s honestly so much you can do in the city but here are a few of our favorite things we would recommend doing.
• Eating Korean BBQ (Jin Korean BBQ in Plano)
• Bowling at Pinstack
• Eating at a steak house (Perry’s Steakhouse
• Visiting Grandscape in the Colony (Lots of restaurants, live music, movies, etc.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to thank my mentor and pastor, Daniel Sandoval. He’s a person that believed and saw the potential and creativity inside of me. He also gave me the freedom to expand and be bold with my gifts and talents.
