We had the good fortune of connecting with Tanille Royston and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tanille, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor was “stepping outside the box.” During the first year of my business, I realized that I had to do some things that I didn’t want to do in order for my business to be successful. For example, I’m not much of a Social Media user, but after months of people talking about how they met their customers on the internet, I thought that I should try posting about my business on Facebook and LinkedIn. Currently, a good percentage of my clients come from Social Media. Also, I was really uncomfortable calling potential clients, and telling them about my business. However, I knew that in order to reach more people, I had to get past my uneasiness. Now, before each phone call, I give myself “pep talk’. I tell myself that everything is going to work out just fine. If someone doesn’t want to speak with me or eventually work with me, that’s okay.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I’ve been an attorney for 16 years. I opened my law practice in May 2019. I set myself apart from other attorneys by being responsive to my clients. I answer my own phone, and I quickly return calls or e-mails. I’m most proud that my clients often thank me for being so responsive.

I got to where I am today by hard work. When I was a little girl I felt that if my parents couldn’t get something for me, I would get it for myself. Working hard was not easy. It required a lot of dedication and sacrifice. I waited a long time for the things that I wanted in life. While I was waiting, I often told myself that my hard work would pay off one day, and God was by my side fighting with me.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
When I had friends visit me, I would often take them to restaurants that would have good and different food. I would take them to Hutchins’ for Texas barbeque, Gloria’s for Latin cuisine and the Daiquiri Shoppe for a taste of food from the Big Easy! After eating, I would take my guests to the Spa Castle for a very unique experience. I would show my friends how to stop and relax in a place like no other. For my guests who like the outdoors, I would take them around Klyde Warren Park or the Katy Trail.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to give a huge shoutout to Derrick Royston, my husband. We met in high school, and we’ve been friends ever since! As my biggest supporter, he has been there through all the challenging times in college, law school and my career. Derrick has graciously lent an open ear to the trials and errors of running a business and working with clients. Throughout the years he has always encouraged me to do my best, and let it go. I’m so blessed to have him in my life!
