We had the good fortune of connecting with Anita Sanchez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Anita, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
My entire life has been governed by my desire to create. I express myself and heal and share my love through creating all different sorts of art, jewelry, music, poetry and the list goes on. All of my being is made up for artistic creativity. I have worked in many different settings but my longing always goes back to my life’s work in some the world of art and creation. Connecting with other creatives is what makes me truly happy.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
It’s so important to me to be able to make connections with the people around and to build honest and positive relationships. I would hope that my sincerity, warmth and genuine desire to uplift others is felt by those that I encounter and work with. I don’t think working for yourself is ever ‘easy’ but the desire to do things in the way that feels most genuine and true to your heart helps get you through any rough patches. When I started Hecho Con Amor over 3 years ago, I figured a lot of things out on my own as I went along. I’ve learned that it’s so important to really give yourself time to think over your decisions, to not act too hastily, trust your gut always, and remember to BREATHE. These have been some of the most important things that I have learned. That and ALWAYS stay hydrated! I want the world to know that the mission of Hecho Con Amor has always been to support the BIPOC community and it’s creatives. Even if you don’t feel like you have the support of some people, Hecho Con Amor loves you and wants you to succeed!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would definitely take them to the Cara Mia Theatre at the Latino Cultural Center, or to rummage through some of my favorite thrift shops on the Jefferson strip. Pick up some crystal’s, incense, and art at the Luna Metaphysical shop or Pan African Connection. Let’s go eat at Gonzalez Restaurant and then get some yummy desert from Kookie Haven. Best dive bar for a warm welcome and karaoke is Barbara’s Pavilion and Ocho Bar has amazing cocktails!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to acknowledge all of the amazing creators, artists, musicians, independent business owners and organizations that have been involved with Hecho Con Amor and it’s events. Huge shoutout to Maroches Bakery. The organizations MPACT DFW, Harvest Project Food Rescue, Chicana In Nature and Lucha Dallas. Musicians Meloditations, Emma Seckso And Her Mirror Selfies, and El Grupo Cache are all amazing. Some of the small businesses I have had the honor of working with, Meadow Made, Flores Bakehaus, La Flor Seca, Simply Super Gonz, just to name a few. Honestly there are so many talented and hard working individuals in DFW the list could go on and on!
