We had the good fortune of connecting with Ciera Monroe and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ciera, alright, let’s jump in with a deep one – what’s you’re definition for success?
The definition of success to me will have a forever changing meaning depending on what goal or level of success I’m trying to reach. Success looks, feels, sounds different for many individuals but for me it means I accomplished a short term or long term goal that I set for myself and reached it overtime. Success means that I made myself or someone important to me feel special by an act of kindness, words of affirmation or supporting in the capacity I’m available too.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I currently have an intimate lifestyle creative space located in Bishop Arts District that can be rented hourly by other artists and creatives to shoot content for the services, products, or productions they provide. I moved into the space July 2021 so I’m mostly excited about being able to work with more creatives and see how they utilize my space. I know this space is unique because of the location, how minimal but contemporary the furniture pieces are, and my availability to help direct or provide some guidance while they are in the space.
I originally was in the culinary space as a private chef taking on catering gigs, private dinners, and worked with other chefs in the DFW area, but I wanted to tap in with more business owners who needed help creating content or found interest in how I create my content. I have to say, it was an easy transition for me because I already had been taking photos of my food or shooting behind the scenes footage at events to build for my page. Once I officially decided to focus only on content creation October 2021, I’ve made a few connections with other businesses, networked outside of the culinary industry and have been able to help some businesses translate their desired message to their social media platform. I’m still learning a lot everyday in the content creator and influencer world so along the way I have to remain teachable, open to network, and collaborate with other creatives.
My biggest message I want to give is that its ok to transition out of a field you no longer desire to be in buts its important to have a foundation and plan for your next move. Will it be A-Z? No, but it will be worth it if you stay focused and fluid with the change.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Favorite spots in the city right now have been a few speakeasy vibes and some cool boutique restaurants. CasaBlanca in Bishop Arts is a favorite because of the vacay feels walking in. Bourbon and Banter, Atwater, and Akai are all some really low-key but fun speakeasies you will want to checkout. Akai requires you to have the password and Bourbon and Banter you will need to call to buzz the door open, pretty cool. A current restaurant that really good for girls night, Sunday funday or even a good dinner with good music is KISS Dallas, located in Uptown. They have another location in Houston as well and they decided to bless Dallas, I’m so glad they did.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have to shoutout my mom and sister for supporting my transition of moving to Dallas and pursuing not only my corporate role but also running a creative space. It really does take a village to raise a child and they have been so hands on when it comes to coordinating care for my son, dropping him off, etc when I have my space booked, have an event to host, and have other task for work. Without them being able to be flexible with my content creation, I probably wouldn’t be able to say yes to a lot of things and I will be forever grateful for them.
