We had the good fortune of connecting with Regina Roberts and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Regina, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
What was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I first dealt with imposter syndrome a lot. I did not think I could become a personal trainer, I like cookies too much and do not have a “personal trainer body”. It took some time before I realized I was exactly what was needed and by me not offering my services, I was actually doing a disservice to my community.
The fact that I was a foodie, not an athlete made me the perfect trainer for a lot of people who were intimidated with just the thought of diet and exercise all together. I have always wanted to help those who have never worked out or eaten healthy, and show them workouts can be fun, and they can do it, and veggies are good! I figured I can help so many more by showing my struggles as well as my commitments and bring everyone I can with me on this health and wellness journey. I knew I could not let fear and doubt win. I was scared but knew I had to get off of the “hamster wheel of corporate america” and start helping others and doing what I love to do for me. Because when you do what you love your not really working anymore.
Thus, Personal Changes Training was born.
What should our readers know about your business?
I named my business Personal Changes Training for a reason; it’s just that: Personal. I love all my clients and they love me. I have a special relationship with all of my favorite clients. I believe what sets me apart from other trainers and virtual programs is being personal with each and every client and member and really being there for them. I am always me and up front with my clients on what I am going through and working on. When it comes to weight loss it’s not always about the 1 hour of exercise but the other 23 hours a day and what you are putting in your body. I do not pretend to be perfect and I relate with my clients. They know I am always being me. The temptations and excuses I have are the same as theirs so instead of acting like I don’t have them I will post a video of “what I am tempted by but NOT eating” or “curse out the cookie”.
I would like others to know it’s never too late to start being healthy. No matter how old you are, how big you are, or if you even can move your legs I have a workout for you that you will love.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
First stop is downtown Dallas. We have to check out where JFK was shot and hang out at the grassy knoll. After that we would take a free ride on the M train and stop at Klyde Warren Park to people watch and grab lunch from a food truck. Another day we would have to get our nails done at Plano Nail Bar and then have the best Ahi Tower at Densetsu.
We would have to do some window shopping at North Park or the Galleria also I love finding deals at the Allen Outlet Mall. Depending on the season we may even check out a Cowboy, Mavs, Rangers, or Stars game. or at least visit the Frisco Star. When it is time to go out dancing I love Salsa night at Glorias or we could go down to Deep Ellum and visit my friends bar Will Call.!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Jennifer Reid, owner of Live Wire Fitness led a early morning bootcamp class that made me fall in love with fitness. Shannon who went to the class with me. I appreciate and love all my clients but especially Glenda for being that special client who introduced me to at the wonderful ministry, Powered to Move and adaptive training. Shea, Jessica, and Natalie the best friends any girl could ask for that have loved supported me since the beginning. My number one best friend my partner in everything Arnulfo, for always being there for me, listening to me and doing all the hard work that I don’t want or cant do. My children are my biggest motivation and the reason why I do everything. Last but not least I am so thankful for God who I owe it all to.
