We had the good fortune of connecting with Theo Garza and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Theo, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I am from a small suburb city called Duncanville “The City of Champions”. Growing up here has made a HUGE imprint on my views of culture. Living in a city of such diverse ethnicities has been a joyful experience. It’s one of the main reasons why I love to start conversations with people from cultures I have yet to be exposed to. Being from Duncanville has a daily effect on not just my self, but everyone who has lived here and crossed paths with a Dville Champion.
What should our readers know about your business?
Being my true self of who I am and how I live is the only factor that sets me apart from others. Snoop Dogg said it best, “Who can be you but you?” Being referred to other families or companies for their private events will ALWAYS be my most cherished accomplishment.; knowing I did a great job for my client who wants to continue my business brings me much pride in what I do. As for my business knowledge. My parents, Gus and Rebecca Garza, have shown me first hand how a small business is run. The back end and front end of a business are so tightly tied together it amazes me how my parents get contracts, quotes, and the calendar done. Adding to that…the lessons I’ve learned from other business owners at conferences such as Mobile Beat and Wedding MBA are extremely beneficial for any self employed person. The world needs to know that the experience you get with me or any other brand is unique to that business.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love so many different entertainment venues! One of the most low key budget friendly ones is Ellen’s Amusement Park in Cedar Hill. They have a mini golf course, classic and new arcade games, delicious snacks, batting cages, paintball areas, lastly….also one of my favorites loud and fast go karts!! Another source of entertainment I love attending are movie theaters. My favorite theater experience is at the Plano Cinemark location off of the Dallas North Tollway. It helps that the HQ for Cinemark is literally right next door to the theater…but either way the staff and concessions experience is BY FAR the best! It is a must do while in Dallas. Lastly, Serious Pizza. This hole in the wall pizza joint found in Deep Ellum is my favorite pizza parlor ever. Besides from the excellent large slices and delicious SP sauce the memories that can be made there are why it’s my favorite. I’ll share one with you so you can go create your own. After a proposed to my girlfriend now fiancé at a near by venue, The Curtain Club, we walked over to SP and got our selves a couple slices of their pepperoni and cheese. One of my favorite nights ever.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’ve gotten to learn from SO many different performers and entertainers over the years. The members part of DJ CROSSTALK and the DJ Kick-Around have been an incredible resource of fellowship and knowledge. More specifically I’d love to spotlight these people: Dan Beaty “DJ Elite”, Mike Wilson “Big Mike”, Shelby Jones, Matt Douglas “Douglas Entertainment” Melissa Boswell “DJ Madam Mel”, Jorge B. Contreras “DJ GEO”, Jeffery Powell “DJ JP”, Kelly Hooper, Gus Garza, Rod Baker, Josh Boudreaux “Loud & Clear”, Aaron Matthews “Arbutus Entertainment” Lee Lord “DJ Sneaky Productions” Luis Mendoza and lastly the man who has shared his gifts of mixing with me Mike Garret “DJ Mike Production”
