We had the good fortune of connecting with Crystal Nerpel and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Crystal, we’d love for you to start things off by telling us something about your industry that we and others not in the industry might be unaware of?
Not all professional organizers come into your home and work like Marie Kondo works. We all have our own specialties and unique working techniques. Most experienced professional organizers focus in on one or two areas of expertise and become really well versed in those areas. Specialized areas of organizing and decluttering include: residential organizing, organizing small businesses, photograph sorting and archiving, productivity experts; hoarding specialists, relocation/moving services and coaching/consulting. So, before you hire a professional organizer make sure to ask what they consider to be their area of expertise. For me, it’s coaching.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am good at empowering and encouraging people to declutter, de-stress and simplify because I know what it feels like to be drowning in clutter and chaos. I have been there too! I am empathetic to my clients’ struggles because I have walked in their shoes. I specialize in working with motivated individuals who are ready to roll up their sleeves and declutter, de-stress and simplify. I offer one-on-one coaching, online products and a membership site to teach people how to love their homes. I don’t swoop in and do all of the decluttering and organizing for my clients – I put the power back into their hands. Deciding to step away from traditional, in-home organizing was a BIG step for my business, and I struggled with that decision. Every business owner second guesses themselves from time to time. Luckily, I’ve learned to listen to myself and take cues from my clients so that I can grow in a direction that is inline with my core values. When you take the time to discover your core values, then make decisions based on those values, you’re golden!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
This is a tricky question for an introvert to answer because my knee-jerk reaction is to say, “My friend loves to cook so I would let her make me some guacamole and then we will stay home, drink margaritas, watch movies and look at our old yearbooks,” but I realize that she may get bored of my introvert fun after a few days (she is NOT an introvert). I might be able to talk her into taking an early morning barre class with me at Pure Barre Flower Mound. I love that place and the people! Then, since she doesn’t live in Texas, I would love to take a day trip to Waco and visit Magnolia Market at The Silos, eat lunch at one of the yummy food trucks, buy a $24 coffee mug and take pictures to prove that we were there together If we had time, I would want to show her my happy place: our ranch! It’s so peaceful with tons of wildlife and wildflowers. Hiking, biking and swinging in a hammock is my kind of entertainment.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
MOST DEFINITELY! My BIG shoutout goes to my “M&M” group. This is my mastermind group that has been the backbone of my success since the very beginning of my entrepreneurial journey. We challenge, support, encourage, empower and inspire each other daily. Thank you Teresa Schlup (web designer), Betty Hilliard (copy editor), Kim VanderPoel (social media expert) and Darla Martin (wellness coach).
