We had the good fortune of connecting with Christy Marchant and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Christy, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
We’d always been a pretty eco-conscious family, but after reading that less than 10% of all plastic is actually recycled, we started looking for ways to reduce our consumption in the first place. The kitchen was first and easier to tackle with some of the amazing markets in the D/FW area. Then we started looking to the bathroom. (And I was the biggest culprit!) There was a Sea Salt Texturizing spray I loved in a plastic bottle. I looked for alternative in glass or metal, but they were all crazy expensive or shipped from overseas. So, I started playing with ways to recreate it. One thing led to another, and lots of classes and experiments later, a line was born. When the Covid pandemic hit, it seemed the perfect time to go legit. I love being able to experiment with natural ingredients and make sure my sources are as local as possible. I even grow the herbs in some of the products!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I do think of what I do as an art. Creating natural products that still feel indulgent and luxurious, without the guilt of tossing another plastic bottle, can be a challenge. It takes a lot of listening, learning and a TON of trail and error. One of the biggest challenges I faced early on was sourcing ingredients and packaging as sustainable and locally as I could. Connecting with other makers and artists really helped me find the right folks I wanted to work with.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
There would be a lot of hiking and a lot of eating! The Fort Worth Nature Center and LLELA in Lewisville are some pretty amazing hiking spots and both have a commitment to ecological restoration. I’m a Fort Worth gal and love the classic vibe of Camp Bowie with places like Winslow’s and Lucille’s. One of my new favorites is Wild Acre Brewery. I’d get lost in the museum district for days!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My kids get all the shout outs! To get three boys on board with mom starting a business in the middle of a pandemic? Pretty amazing. They’re my testers, my marketing feedback team, my delivery crew and my biggest cheerleaders.
