We had the good fortune of connecting with Laura Markum and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Laura, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
We offer local produce grown without dangerous chemicals of any kind. We take a regenerative approach to growing so that not only is the produce great, but our impact on the environment and community can be great too.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My farm is located on one acre in the suburbs south of Dallas. I mostly grow fruits and vegetables, and occasionally we have eggs available from our little flock of chickens. It tends to be pretty difficult to get truly local produce these days, especially in big metropolitan areas. It’s hard to know where exactly your food comes from and how it was produced. I want to bridge that gap and bring healthy food to people living in the city. Selling at farmers markets and through deliveries, as well as having the farm open for visitors, I’m able to give people the experience of knowing their farmer and seeing exactly where their food comes from and how it is produced. There’s a peace of mind that comes with that.

It’s taken a ton of work to get to a place where I’m able to sell what I grow. I think what has helped me is the fact that I love what I’m doing, and no matter how hard it gets, I always find myself back in the garden. I can’t imagine myself doing anything else. There have been a lot of challenges, but every time I bump up against something, I always come back to that fact.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My family has always really encouraged and supported me as I’ve followed my dream of farming.
