We had the good fortune of connecting with Simeon Aston Covell Walker and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Simeon, can you tell us about an impactful book you’ve read and why you liked it or what impact it had on you?
The Bible. I have not yet ventured through every inch of it yet and I doubt I’ll fit the whole picture in frame in my lifetime but is a beautiful work in indeed. Its author was able to capture truths from every aspect of life no matter what the situation. And if you don’t think so you simply are refusing to see the truth for yourself. It has given me wisdom from stories of kings and poor folk alike. It provides an examples of true romance, love, brotherhood and sisterhood. The Good, the bad, and the ugly. All of the successes and failures of man and the answer to peace, all being able to held in my hands by the author of the universe. What a blessing it is for a creation to understand its creator. God is the artists of artists. Sculptor of sculptors. Visionaries of visionaries And we are in His image. As an artist it’s only right that I pay homage to the person that was responsible for painting me. I want my art to fulfill its purpose according to the plan that God has. A man’s work can put him in the presence of kings. Sometimes the things you make go into rooms that you may never enter and touch someone that you may not even know by my name simply because you decided to build something. And I’m surrounding myself with people that understand kingdoms aren’t built in a day and death is a moment away. We were put here to work. Be fruitful and multiply. I’m just trying to be the influence God wants me to be, save souls, and live peaceably with all man while I’m here on this earth. My art may outlast me but even the thought of my name will vanish eventually. God is forever.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
To be honest I am nowhere near where I want to be as far as eating off of my art. It has been a mix of doubt and lack of discipline on my part as far as actually making a name for myself. I am sitting on a lot of work right now from photography to music to drawing. The same with my emotions its sometimes difficult to let things out simply because the message I’m trying to deliver isn’t fully crafted and ready to deliver. And other times it’s just not sitting down and doing the work consistently. And in my case I have spent a lot of time creating and just enjoying a lot of my own work and letting a few other eyes and ears experience my work as well. I’m still building the confidence in myself to bring the work to market. And with all the work I have and me creating sporadically I’ve been having to go back and organize my work. So it’s definitely trying to find that balance offense and defense and I’ve been playing a whole lot of defense. When I say I’m sitting on some heat I mean it.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Man I don’t like being out like that but I would definitely have to hit up rollerworld in GP or the Arlington Skatium. Six flags of course. Definitely sliding to whataburger. Gotta fade Lisa’s chicken as well. They opened up one on Cooper in Arlington. I went to this spot called Rodeo Goat in Dallas with my girl and that mug is bussin. You could hit up the galleria in Dallas. For some relaxation you could go to King Spa in Dallas. I know the State fair is coming up soon. That could be on the list if they’re in town in season. I really like the trinity park in Fort Worth. I’m not really a club or party person but I do go to open mics like the Speakeasy Open Mics and just recently I performed at the Dallas Open Mic at the green elephant.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First I would like to thank God for just allowing me an opportunity at life. Secondly I would like to thank my parents for providing me with a solid foundation mentally, physically and most importantly spiritually. I also would like to shoutout Meleya Dunn one of my favorite artist, if not the most favorite artist of mine to walk the earth who happens to be my girl. And a few other honorable mentions, my guy Mike Vee, Venus the Venue, Umbrella Gang, Catnap Studios, my boy Dejour Riggins, CrunchyRiot, Rich and AT, Speakeasy Open Mic and lastly my guy Julian Beard for copping my first artwork print. And obviously shoutout to my other close friends and family. Y’all know who y’all are.
