Meet Jenny Stokes | Dog Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jenny Stokes and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jenny, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important part of my photoshoots is that the dogs and their parents are having the time of their lives together! A lot of my clients are unsure about how their dog will behave- if they will sit and stay like they do at home, if they’ll be nervous around a new person, or if they’ll even look at the camera. I reassure my clients that even if your dog seems like they aren’t being a top model, the most important thing is that we keep having fun, spoiling them, and telling them what a good dog they are! I take on the responsibility of getting the cutest pictures of their dog, and the only thing my clients need to worry about is if their dog knows how much they are loved. From the consultation call to receiving their artwork, the entire Smooches and Pooches Photography experience is about celebrating how perfect their dog is!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Every photographer has their own special talent, whether it’s documenting the small moments of a wedding day, posing a newborn baby *just so* to them look like an angel, or in my case, capturing the adorable expressions and quirks of a dog within a split second. Every dog I photograph is completely unique- from their personalities to their physical attributes, training backgrounds to their preferences. This is what makes my job so fun! Some dogs are very responsive to my typical tricks I use for posing, and for others I get a little more creative, but by the end of the session, all dogs are pros at smiling and head-tilting for the camera!
The thing that most excites me about my work is when I create pictures that show the dog and owners looking at each other; there is nothing like seeing how happy you and your dog are together when you tell them how much you love them! They say “a picture is worth 1000 words” and those images are the ones that really tell the story of how much parents love their dog, and how much that dog loves their parents back.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would give them a tour of the stellar wine scene we have in DFW! Thirty-Eight and Vine in Fort Worth’s Foundry district is a fun pour-it-yourself experience! Grand Cru on Magnolia Street has incredible flight selection and delicious bites. 3 Vino in Roanoke has a laid back atmosphere with really comfy chairs! Off the Vine in Grapevine hosts some of the most fun tastings that feels like you’re drinking with family. And I’d pick up a unique bottle from El Wine Chateau in Keller to take to Rockledge Park and enjoy the marvelous sunset views over Grapevine Lake!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to dedicate my shoutout to my husband, family, and friends who have been watching my photography journey flourish since the beginning! They see the all of the behind the scenes moments of the creative process- the exciting and the frustrating ones. I appreciate them always encouraging me and celebrating with me!
