We had the good fortune of connecting with Francisco Munoz and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Francisco, every day, we about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
Over a discussion of how Whataburger is a Southern Delicacy.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My brand started off of one sugar skull design I made. I initially just wanted to make a sugar skull to bring attention to the Pineal Gland in some sort of fashion, I didn’t have a theme to go off yet. This was in 2018 and Houston was still hype about the Astros winning the World Series so I decided to do a Astros baseball themed sugar skull. I made the design on my computer and made one shirt for myself. The day I got the shirt, I wore it out that night in downtown Houston. I got a compliment from someone at a bar off of Main St. He said “Hey man, thats an awesome shirt, where’ you get it?” I told him I made it and he asked if I was taking any orders, I told him yes I was. He responded “I’m the manager of this bar and I want 10 of those shirts for my bar staff.” Thats when I told myself, Ok, I think this can work.

Southern Delicacy is all about the South. The Third coast (for now). From Texas to Miami and in between. This idea came after a late night eat from Whataburger. Me and a good friend were talking about how Whataburger is a Southern Delicacy. I made the sugar skull design but had no direction of a whole theme to go off of. Southern Delicacy stuck with me for a week or 2 after. Thats when I put it all together.

I’m most proud of myself for going for it and being consistent.

Southern Delicacy was a side hustle of course. I got laid off because of Covid in 2020 and thats when I decided to put all my energy and thought into my brand.

I got to where I am today because of my network and being consistent.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Houston has a lot of different scenes to check out. My best friend comes with me to The Flat every and now and then. Its a night club that has the underground feel with good music. Like a basement party.

The Heights is a cool area to eat and drink in. Theres a couple of stores with exclusive stuff that no one else would have.

8th Wonder brewery is a nice spot to get the Htown feel. All about the city, all about the culture. Buffalo Bayou brewery in the Heights is a great spot as well. Good food, great beer and with a beautiful view of the city.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My close friends and family of course. They’re the ones who encouraged and supported me. It grew from there.
