We had the good fortune of connecting with Kimesha Daley and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kimesha, what’s the end goal, career-wise?
Ultimately, I want K Luvs to be a household name. I’d like it to be a one stop shop for all of your clothing needs, no matter the size. The goal is to expand in such a way that I can hire people to push my vision, merchandisers, buyers, a customer service team and the like. The bigger the brand, the more people I’ll need to keep K Luvs running. That would allow me to hire people from my communities. Give people an opportunity who may not necessarily be accepted in other organizations. Differences are not always accepted. I mean, there has always been a stigma around plus size people. That same stigma can be tied to race, gender, sexual orientation. I want to be able to be a place where people from all backgrounds can find a cool place to work where they are accepted.

What should our readers know about your business?
Hey All – I’m Kimmie Dee, owner of K Luvs Boutique! We offer a unique online shopping experience for women of all shapes and sizes. Starting K Luvs was more than a notion. I went into it knowing I wanted to provide women with clothing that made them look and feel good at any size.

K Luvs was created simply to fill a void in the options of clothing for women, especially plus size women. I can honestly say I wasn’t sure what all that would entail in the beginning. Over time, I realized that all was not fair in clothing and sizes. One of the challenges I’ve faced is finding clothing that women larger than a size 12 could wear that was also fashionable. I know many boutique owners who won’t even think about adding larger sizes, even though they’ve been asked if/when they will offer a broader range of sizes.

I have a rule, I never put anything in my boutique that I wouldn’t wear myself. As a curvy woman, I like to have options. Some days I want to feel flirty, other days I want to feel sexy, and then there are days I want something sporty. I believe my customers are like me, so they need clothing to match their moods.

I can say the challenge is on going. The truth of the matter is catering to larger sizes is difficult. It requires a lot more work, research and investigation. Most vendors stop at a size L. Many distributors still don’t feel the need to provide clothing in plus sizes. It’s sad because plus size women have no problem spending money on clothing and they search high and low for cute finds. There is definitely a market, but some online boutiques and brick and mortar stores are just not up for the challenge. Or, if they offer plus sizes, the clothing is frumpy, unflattering and just butt ugly. In 2021 and beyond, K Luvs is putting an end to that era.

It’s 2021. Women are embracing their curves. Women like Lizzo and Jill Scott flaunt their figures. More full-figured women are wearing bikini and crop tops because we have embraced our bellies, we flaunt our FUPAs, we adore our stretch marks and we dare you to say something negative about it! Women who have curves are in this season, and every season after this one! I think that is what I want people to know about K Luvs. We are on a mission to find the clothes that all women want to wear, no matter their size.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
(Since I’m new to the area, I can give you a good day of events that I’d share with friends from out of town.)

First we are headed to Whisky Cake for brunch. They have amazing bacon! The food is good and the drinks are also wonderful! (As you’ll see “Drinks” is a theme here).

I’m an island girl to my heart, being from Jamaica, so we have to follow up brunch with a good drink. For that, it’s definitely the Daiquiri Shop in Carrollton! So many options, so little time before you pass out! LOL!

Then we are headed to Lake Lewisville for a nice relaxing afternoon. Water calms me, being from Jamaica, so it’s a place of peace, of reflection and clarity.

Then it’s back home to shower, get dressed in a K Luvs original, and we are off to Dinner. Del Frisco has an amazing menu and you can never go wrong with a great steak or seafood. Plus the atmosphere is swanky.

Afterwards, hookah with friends at a chill spot would be a great way to end our night.

A fun packed day with great friends is always a vibe for me.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First, I have to thank my reason, My son Dylan. He’s 11 and reminds me every day why I do what I do. It’s not easy, by any means, but when he smiles and I look in his eyes, I know I can keep going. I have to keep going because I want him to see, in his life, an example of what perseverance and fortitude look like. I need him to know that, as a black man or woman in America, it may not be easy, but you can accomplish your goals and you can achieve your dreams when you set your mind to it. There will be hurdles, tests and trials, yes, but, if you keep pushing, you will see results.

Last, I have to thank Tara. She is a great motivator. She pushes me when I am discouraged. She is my biggest supporter, from sharing, to purchasing and promoting. She promotes my brand because she believes in K Luvs. On days when I may not feel like it, she makes sure I am focused on the next campaign. She pushes me to promote and post. Having someone who believes in you isn’t the norm. People will say they are happy for you and that they support you, but never purchase a piece. They’ll never share your posts. They won’t even direct someone to your site. So I count it an honor to have someone in my corner who does exactly that. Even if I shout it to the rooftops, she’ll never fully know just how much I appreciate her.
