We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexis Smith and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alexis, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor behind my success and the success of my brand is God. As cliche as that may sound none of what I do would have even came into fruition without my faith and belief system in a higher power. I truly believe that God is my source. He placed the right people around me to motivate and inspire me to pursue my brand, took me through certain obstacles to live and learn through, and gave me the strength and courage to share my testimonials and experiences in order to be a blessing in someone else’s life. From having my brand I have learned the difference between intention and impact. In everything that I do for my brand I look at my intention which is the message I want to translate and I look at the ways that message can be sent to impact others. My importance on God is so strong because I know from experience that he has worked for me and through me.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My brand is called “Crowned Haute”. My personal definition of Crowned Haute is, “Being crowned in elegance and freedom; investing in your truest self without fear of judgement.” My brand is very important to me and I am extremely proud of the fact that I have been consistent and disciplined in my craft. Crowned Haute started off as a blog and was something that I began in college that was merely a personal blog. In the midst of the coronavirus pandemic I decided to be consistent with my blog writing, be vulnerable, and put myself out there. I worked diligently on my website and began writing blog post based on my personal experience. These blog posts are always geared towards self love & development and/or professional development.I honestly did not anticipate for many people to read the blog posts but I got a lot of positive feedback and that was a major confidence boost for me. When I made my first blog post I was extremely nervous of the judgement that I may receive from others, I was nervous about if people would actually read my posts, and lastly would other people even like what I posting. My biggest challenge was getting out the mindset of people pleasing and being authentic to who I am and the unique personal experiences that have shaped me. Another one of my challenges was money. I have such big dreams and know where I would like for this brand to go but have the financial means to do those things Is challenging. I’ve learned to balance my reality and my dreams. I currently work 2 jobs and am actively doing what I need to do now to get to where I want to be one day. Faith without works is dead so I encourage anyone that has big dreams to put action behind it and be realistic about what you need to do in order to make your dreams come true. You can not spend time watching everyone else’s dreams come true on Instagram or tv. Yo have to be intentional and set aside allotted time to work on and improve your craft. The spirit of laziness can set in sometimes but I have learned that even when I am tired and I don’t feel like doing certain things, I have to keep going because there is someone’s breakthrough is connected to me. I want the world to know that this brand may not be as big now but it will be one day and that this is an environment and safe space for community, healing, and love! I am still in the process of learning, growing, and gaining wisdom so I don’t know everything but as a woman there is so much power in connecting and sharing our stories.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I am a huge foodie so I can easily say that majority of our time would be spent eating along with fun activities. My favorite meal is brunch so naturally we would have to get brunch at Seven Mile Cafe in Fort Worth, Social House in Dallas, or Bread Winners in Dallas. Some fun activities would be visiting the Fort Worth Stockyards, going shopping at Legacy West in Plano, riding roller coaster’s at Six Flags, visiting the Botanical Gardens, Texas Tulips, Klyde Warren Park, and so much more! Honestly, the amount of activities in DFW are endless! Some great places I would take my friend to for dinner would be Sixty Vines in Plano, Funky Picnic Brewery in Fort Worth, Ebb & Flow in Deep Ellum, or Aunt Irene’s in Dallas! For some fun night life I would definitely go to Concrete Cowboy, Stirr, Sidecar Social, or Pete’s Piano Bar!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My family and close friends have been a driving force when it comes to keeping me uplifted through building my brand. They have served as my models, content readers, special guest on my podcast, and much more! I would like to give a special shout to my mom, Lashonda Crane, my sister, Blaique Webster, and grandpa, Theodis Crane, my grandma, Carolyn Johnson, and my partner in life, Marcus Christopher for the steady encouragement and love throughout my entire journey with my brand “Crowned Haute”. They put in time, money, read my blog posts, shared everything on social media platforms, and helped me when I was investing money to start this brand. Thank you for your encouragement and for inspiring me to continue doing what I feel God has called me to do!
