We had the good fortune of connecting with Barry Hurley and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Barry, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
At Filos LLC we provide highly trained phlebotomists that come directly to your home to perform your bloodwork for ANY laboratory or physician. We provide a high-level concierge experience so that you do not have to take time off of work or miss any important deadline or put yourself at risk during this extremely difficult time. Filos ensures that the blood drawing occurs in the privacy and comfort of your home or office that is on your time and not subject to sitting in a waiting room all day long for a simple procedure. With our model, we not only are providing excellent quality service but we are also helping the communities by limiting exposure, raising efficiency in the medical community, providing for those that have difficulty getting out, and setting the bar extremely high when it comes to mobile medical services. Our platform is trusted and utilized by over 200 physicians and is growing rapidly across Dallas/Ft Worth.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Filos LLC is the premier mobile phlebotomy company in all of north Texas. We are blowing out competitors with a streamlined process that allows us to be more efficient, more informative, and more effective for anyone wishing to utilize our service. Like all companies we had our struggles. I struggled in 2019 because I was too big and too small at the same time and was running the entire company by myself. After I received investors did it help me realize the high demand for our platform and how to make it better and more cohesive. In 2020, we had a major increase in revenue from the year before and I owe that success to a combined effort from our investors, our great staff, and perfecting our platform.
The toughest lesson to learn is patience. Patience is so difficult not only as a business owner but just in general. But with patience and dedication I have learned that anything is possible.
I have never owned a business before so I took a great risk in even starting a company. I began Filos (then called BBDS) back in February 2018 and never could have imagined it being as big of a success as it is has become. I found that even when I had answers that there were still things I didn’t quite know and the best solution is to take the knowledge from mistakes or the mishaps that come along your way and make both yourself and your company better. Filos is Greek for “Friend” and we want everyone to feel that when we come into the home that you are inviting a friend to come inside and help you with your lab work.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take a friend on a decent trip both in and out of the DFW metroplex. You can’t do wrong by starting off with a restaurant like Osaka in Sachse, TX. The sushi, atmosphere, and Fuji Apple sake make this place a great kick off for any night out. I would then take them on a stroll through Deep Ellum where all the lights and music are a great rival to the city of Austin, TX. The next day we would most likely sleep in and then grab a picnic basket and head to the Dallas Arboretum. The arboretum is still one of the most magnificent and magical spots to visit where one can relax and enjoy a good walk outside if the weather is favorable. Next it’s off to see the Dallas Cowboys at AT&T Stadium which is always a blast! Before I would see my friend off I would rush them up to Eisenhower State Park in Denison Tx. During the Spring this is the hidden jewel of all of north Texas. We would enjoy the waters of Lake Texoma, the awesome hiking trails and the scenic views from the cliffside at Eisenhower State Park before heading back home.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Nikole Whipple is a dedicated team member for Filos LLC. She has been with us longer than anyone and has been an absolutely integral part of our success. Her leadership, dedication, hard work, and great demeanor have lead to countless successes with our company. Her work ethic is beyond that of anyone I have known and she takes extreme pride in her work. She is a guiding light for our company and both patient’s and clients alike are always requesting her. Bedside manner is a huge part of the Filos platform and she has a gentleness that resonates very well with everyone. There are not nearly enough people with a drive and work ethic quite like hers in the world and I am lucky to have her on our team.
