We had the good fortune of connecting with Sharon Allen and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sharon, what habits do you feel helped you succeed?
Honestly, creating a routine and sticking to it has been one of my most helpful changes I’ve made for myself in my life. Sometimes your ideas can seem so big that you don’t even know where to begin with tackling them, I think that’s what keeps some people with really great ideas from actually implementing them, they don’t even know where to begin. Waking up each day with a routine really helps structure your life in a way that can make all these big ideas, bite size and manageable. You take it step by step, each day adding a new small goal into your routine, and before you know if you are deep into the success that once seemed impossible.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a private chef, recipe developer and content creator. I discovered my love of cooking when I got to the point in my life that I had to decide what I truly wanted to do next, because everything that was being presented to me was what I knew I did not want to do. I realized cooking and feeding people was the only thing I enjoy doing everyday, so the next step was just putting myself out there. I began culinary school (worked as a server and host since turning 15). I immediately fell in love with being in a commercial kitchen. I worked everywhere from chain restaurants, to hospitals, cafeterias, even little “hole in the wall” pubs before branching out and starting my own catering company. I did weddings, parties and events until slowing down to start my family. As my kids have gotten older I have found this beautiful online community of like minded foodies and before I knew it “GirleatsTexas” was born. I’ve turned this fun hobby of sharing recipes and plates into a lucrative little side hustle that allows my creative side to thrive while still being present at home with my small kids.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m still getting to know Amarillo after just a few years but my way of showing off a city is eating my way through it. My favorite brunch, lunch and dinner spots would be a must. There’s a really cool spot in Amarillo called “YellowCity Street food” and their whole attitude towards the dining experience is something everyone should experience. I’m also a huge thrifter and Route 66 in Amarillo has endless options for one of the kind vintage shopping. Would probably have to end the day on a patio downtown, with a gin martini to sip on, Crush Wine Bar is great for small bites and drinks.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My mother who always believed me when I said I knew what I wanted and prayed for the strength I needed to follow through, My dad who let go of his expectations and embraced me. My husband who makes it possible for me to wake up each morning and choose my passions.
