Meet Jordyn Garca | Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jordyn Garca and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jordyn, career-wise, where do you want to be in the end?
The end goal is my dream of opening up my own foundation, which will help special needs kids by using art as a form of therapy. While doing this I also hope to own and be the curator of my personal art gallery, filled with works of Latino-based artists, including some of my own. I think that there are many goals that I have to reach along the way to get to that point, but I think I am off to a good start and hope to one day reach my long-term goals.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I always thought of art and photography as a hobby and nothing more, but after winning a national competition, I realized that I could use photography as more than just something that I did for fun. It was never easy, before that competition I was never really confident in my work, but I have since gained confidence in myself after winning that competition. I just believed in myself in my craft knowing that what I did was good enough. I want the world to know that I am just getting started.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My favorite spot in the city is Bishop Arts. I love the retro feel and all of the interesting places. I would love to take them to my favorite restaurants in that area (such as Norma’s, Hunky’s, or La Calle Doce), and maybe spend the rest of the day having an impromptu photo shoot. I would definitely recommend checking out Lucky Dog Books and Emporium Pies. I would also recommend Craft Boba Tea if you are wanting to enjoy a fun place to hang out with friends.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would first like to send a shoutout to my sister who has always encouraged me and always pushes me to be my very best. My first ever photograph was a picture of my sister and that was the starting point that pushed me to become more confident in my craft and in my abilities. My sister has always pushed me to believe in myself.
