We had the good fortune of connecting with Ekua Anyanful and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ekua, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I perceive risk as the ability to assume and navigate the psychology that involves uncertainty about the effects and implications of an activity or outcome. I do not associate risk with danger, negativity, or an undesirable consequence. This is simply because of the fact that I always focus on the reward component of assuming some risk. By so doing, I was able to leave a corporate position whereby I was an employee to start my own private practice as a Financial Adviser. It was not easy, especially the first two years, but my mantra is “Keep your Eyes on the Price” In this case the price was the reward of independence, flexibility, business ownership and freedom. As a business owner you have to assume the right amount of risk that will ensure business growth and continuity. Some are measurable but others are not. I could not allow fear to cripple me because of potential exposure to harm or loss but rather I weigh the pros and cons of any action and determine if it is worth taking.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
EA Wealth Management is a company that provides access to comprehensive financial planning, advisory and investment services to both individuals and businesses. We believe working towards your financial goals require:
• Solid, objective advice
• Meaningful, timely information and research
• Easy access to the investment and services that best fit your specific circumstances.
The company is a 100% woman-owned, but what the company is most proud of is our pro bono education and financial planning analysis for women and business owners who need financial planning services but have limited resources. The financial planning education for women is a monthly series held on the first Thursday of the month. Running a financial advisory practice is difficult, so to succeed I had to work harder, with integrity and build trust. I chose to take appropriate risk to remain relevant and in business. Networking and referrals are key to the survival of my practice and I do not take both lightly. What sets EA Wealth Management apart from other firms is our client-centric process focused on pursuing specific milestones we create together. Our comprehensive, three-step planning process is designed to help identify your needs, implement your strategy, and monitor it regularly to help you stay on course.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I live in Fort Worth, home to the Stockyards so all my guests want to see cattle and horses assuming they are on the street everywhere, so I will start by taking my best friend to the Stockyards, where she gets to see what she came for, a rodeo show and also have some Texas style barbecue. My favorite restaurants there are Cattlemen’s Steak House and Cooper’s Old Time Pit Bar-B-Que. A trip to Bass Hall in downtown Fort Worth is a must. Performance and acoustics are great. For a jazz night, we will visit Scat Jazz Lounge and enjoy the day and night at Sundance Square in summer when there are live concerts and movie nights. For relaxation, a trip to Enso Apothecary for yoga and body products are in order. https://ensoapothecary.com/ Organizing a spa day to wrap up the visit is a must and I will use the services of The Dwell Spa https://www.thedwellspa.com/
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I am the daughter of a physicist, a statistician (father) and a businesswoman (mother) so I think, I inherited a portion of my business acumen and interest in numbers and analysis from my parents. I, however, attribute my drive to succeed from my mother. She has a Certificate in Secretarial Studies and went on to work at the Bank of Ghana whilst running a business selling African cloth and print. I remember her taking me on her travels over the weekend to neighboring African countries to find unique African prints to sell. She figured she already had people at the bank where she works so why not turn them into customers by supplying them with products on credit and collecting her funds on payday. She works right there with them, knows them and most importantly knows when they are paid. It was a brilliant concept that ensured business continuity even after she retired. Today my mother Agnes Anyanful is 87 years and has set up shop at home and still has employees at the bank as customers since her business information has been passed on for decades.
