We had the good fortune of connecting with Tyshawn Miles and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tyshawn, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My thought process for starting this business wasn’t all that complex, I wanted to do something that I was passionate about. I was tired of working jobs for the purpose of just paying the bills and feeling all together unsatisfied from day to day. I also wanted to start something that my children could potentially take an interest in and one day take over and be business owners themselves.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
This process to get to where I am was by no means easy, When I made the decision to go full time it was in December of 2019 right before the pandemic hit. I was working for a photography company that in itself was good but not for me, they had their down season in which we were laid off until spring and I thought that it was the perfect time to go full time for myself. Then COVID hit and even though I had been doing things in my business for a while everything fell on me. I continued honing my craft and making lasting connections with my customers. I was known as being a high quality photographer without breaking the entire bank, which is something that I was proud of then and now. Perseverance was one of the biggest things that helped me because there was plenty of times that I thought about going back to the workforce, until around June of 2020 and then things started to pick up, and in a big way. Word of mouth was sending me a lot of referrals and my timeline for turnaround and depths of customer service caused me to gain traction with new customers. Ultimately I am very passionate about my business as I am in the business of capturing and immortalizing memories, I want my clients to be transported back to the moment that the event happened through my photos and from the attention to detail with lighting to framing and locations choice, to our post editing process we put our all into making sure our clients are satisfied. Our slogan here is “Every moment is a Milestone to treasure!” and we aim to make sure that our end product shows just that.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
With so many options to do in the vastness that makes up DFW I would definitely start off having fun and take them to 6 Flags over Texas so they can see what an amusement park is supposed to look like, I would have to also take them by both Dallas/Fort Worth botanical gardens, and because it’s well known of we’d go to visit the AT&T Stadium, (no I’m not a Cowboys fans sorry I was born and raised in NY). I also would go by Ripley’s Believe it or Not and absolute to the African American Museum of Dallas. As far as food goes I could even begin to narrow it down because there are too many favorites to choose from and I could be forever trying to list them all, but Twisted Root would definitely be on the list.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
If there is anyone who absolutely deserves recognition it would be my wife of almost 15 years Alissia Miles. She has been my number one cheerleader during the entire process of getting this business off the ground even in the midst of different trials thrown in by life. When I made the decision to move to doing photography fulltime, moving away from the safety net of a 9 to 5 job it was her belief in me that made the transition smooth and possible.
