We had the good fortune of connecting with Veronica Almodovar and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Veronica, have you ever found yourself in a spot where you had to decide whether to give up or keep going? How did you make the choice?
I think this is a difficult question to answer because everyone has different limits on what all they can handle. I don’t believe there is just one answer. For me, the majority of my life has been me just trying to figure this out personally. I left home when I was eighteen years old, and for two years I lived out of my car. I ended up in the middle of Oak Cliff and had to ask others for help. Food was a blessing that did not always come. That time in my life was dark and uncertain. I honestly did not know where the strength came from to keep going. I was not in a state of mind to encourage myself to move forward each day. I wanted to give in and disappear into what felt like a reoccurring void in my life. I remember sitting on the floor of this rundown apartment that I was staying in for the time being. I just completely fell apart in that moment. With the little energy I had left, all I could do was cry. I hadn’t cried until that moment; I didn’t allow myself to feel any of it honestly. I had shut myself off from developing any emotion to the life I had been living those few years. It was too much. I had waited too long to release what I was holding in, but I am grateful for that break down that day. It was the best thing that had ever happened, at that point anyway. When we are thrown into impossible situations we immediately desire to flee from that hardship. To find quick solutions to our issues, and those choices usually end up being the wrong ones. I chose to hold it all in and not allow anyone to know how difficult life had become. I tried to do it alone and it caused further grief and discomfort. Yet I wasn’t alone in that fight. I had to push until something beautiful came from those sacrifices. That it didn’t matter how long it took for me to get to where I was going. As long as I reached a place where I could rest and know I gave it all I had in me. So, I got up that day and I chose to keep going. Now here I am, with a whole life I built from that moment. It took patience, grace, and faith but I am doing exactly what I am called to do. I am here now because I chose to get back up. I kept getting back up no matter what occurred after. That is the best thing that had ever happened to me, I chose to fight for me.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
When it was decided that Wild Daisies was going to move past being just a dream. My business partner Carolina and I wanted to take into consideration the people we wanted our business to reach. Nothing about our vision for this business was ever to gain as much profit as possible. Wild Daisies Floral & Event Design exists because we want to create beautiful things for those that may not be able to afford a high-end florist. It is a ministry in a way, and we are proud of that. Carolina and I understand hardships happen in life and WE can make a difference in how we affect others. The way we chose to lend a hand and help one another matters! We wanted to give any and every person the chance to have something very personal and special. To know that we crafted a beautiful piece with our customer’s happiness in mind. That is what we wanted, that is what Wild Daisies is for.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If you are in Dallas Texas for a week you will eventually find your way into multicultural experiences in Bishop Arts District. You have great up and coming eatery places all around. With family restaurants and shops that have been a staple since Bishop Arts started growing years ago. The area continues to flourish and add more creative stops for daily shoppers. One of our favorite places to visit is a plant sanctuary, it is such a therapeutic experience. Truly a hidden treasure tucked away in a little house called Oasis Plant Shop.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Who deserves recognition and praise? Oh man… so many people helped me get to where I am now. Nothing that I have I accomplished entirely alone. Not a single thing was done without someone’s amazing affirmation, kindness and affection towards me. If I have to choose, I would choose my mother and my faith. Both saved me in ways that I did not realize I needed saving. My mom gave me life and spoke truth over me daily. My faith brought me out of the things I felt tied to me and weighed me down. Both were life changing and brought the release of many burdens that I had not known were there. I owe it all, everything I am and have become since then to them.
