We had the good fortune of connecting with Nika Walker and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nika, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I started Loc Love Hair Sprinkles because when I started my locs I wanted adornments but I didn’t like the typical adornments that most loc queens wear. I wanted a safe permanent adornment.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As DFW’s first and only Certified Hair Sprinkle Artist, my work is all about turning confidence into something you can see sparkle. I install semi-permanent hair adornments—tiny glass beads individually installed into locs, braids, and natural hair—so my clients can literally carry their shine wherever they go. This isn’t just beauty, it’s storytelling, energy, and celebration woven into every strand. What sets my work apart is that it’s not just a style — it’s an experience. I sprinkle with intention, love, and artistry, and my clients leave feeling elevated, adorned, and seen.

I’m most proud that I am the FIRST and ONLY Certified Hair Sprinkle Artist in the Dallas Ft. Worth Metroplex and saw it grow from curious stares to booked-out appointments, salon partnerships, pop-ups, and a full-on movement. Hair sprinkling isn’t just cute — it’s symbolic. It’s softness, it’s joy, it’s luxury, it’s culture, and it’s spiritual for many of us. Watching someone look in the mirror and say, “Oh wow… this is me?” — that’s the moment I know I’m walking in purpose.

Getting here definitely wasn’t easy. I stepped into a lane that existed in the form of trial and error with no CERTIFICATIONS; which meant educating, demonstrating, and standing firm in my value of being certified and not just adorning hair using any type of materials and technique. There were moments of doubt, fear and learning to trust my Hair Sprinkle education even when others didn’t know about it yet. But I pushed through by educating my loc queens and kings, staying consistent, staying creative, building community, and remembering that pioneers are never comfortable — they’re chosen. I showed up, marketed myself fearlessly, honored my clients, and let excellence speak for me.

The biggest lessons I’ve learned are:
1. Your uniqueness is your power — don’t shrink it.
2. Community matters — real connection builds real loyalty.
3. When you protect your craft, it protects you right back.
4. Every sprinkle is deeper than beauty — it’s energy, confidence, expression, and identity.

What I want the world to know about me and Loc Love Hair Sprinkles is that this brand was built off love — love for locs, love for creative Black expression, love for standing out and showing up sparkly in a world that sometimes tries to dim us. This is bigger than beads. It’s artistry, it’s healing, it’s culture, and it’s joy made visible.

I don’t just sprinkle hair — I sprinkle spirits. I sprinkle confidence. I sprinkle celebration. And we’re just getting started !
