Meet Amanda Bonham | Fort Worth Hairstylist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Amanda Bonham and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Amanda, what role has risk played in your life or career?
One thing I’ve lived by in the beauty industry is “if it feels scary and gets your heart beating, you’re heading in the right direction. Do it- Take that leap.” Taking risks makes you stand out and become a better version of yourself! I’m all for taking risks and encouraging others to do so as well.
One year into my career, I made the decision to step away from something safe, easy, and comfortable [a salon], to being on my own. I now am my own boss, in my own space, and creating something that feels like a legacy in bloom for my kid’s to follow if they wish.
Taking that risk of jumping into something completely unknown has been the best decision I’ve made in the beauty industry and for my family.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Currently, I co-own a little hair studio in Fort Worth, TX where I do all things color/blonding, hair extensions, and bridal styling. I try to do just about everything to accommodate everyone, Need an updo for your wedding? Wanna try pink hair or maybe you want the trendy “lived in” look right now. No matter the service, I’m your girl!
I love being creative and doing something new every single day, and being a hairstylist allows me to do that, though the journey so far has not been the easiest!
When I started cosmetology school, I just had my first baby at the age of 21 and he was four months old when the first day rolled around. Three months later, I found out I was pregnant again and was shocked. I didn’t know how I was going to make it through the rest of my time in school since I was only going part time-it was tough! I had to change my schedule around and later found out I needed a C-section which took me out of school for three weeks. When I was due, I had 55 hours left in my program and my contract allowed me only one more week to complete those hours. All I remember thinking was “ I’m so close but how am I going to do this, post surgery and postpartum?” I started to doubt myself and saw everything I worked for, fading. Thankfully, I had a support system to ensure I was able to complete those 55 hours in 5 days-12 hour school days away from my 3 week old baby! It was the hardest thing I have ever gone through.
I went into a commission salon and started building clientele there, but it was tough working around babies, a schedule with morning, afternoon and evening shifts, and my husband’s schedule. I felt like I barely got to see my family, and it was exhausting for both of us.
Mental health nowadays is something that we prioritize and I think it’s very important to put first to ensure you don’t hit rock bottom. Early into 2025, I made the decision that my family and our mental health WAS the priority and something had to give.
The day I left will forever be burned into my memory because that was a pivotal point in my journey in the beauty industry.
A few months later, things started falling into place for the better! A friend of mine and I now co-own a studio suite at the Mattison Avenue in Fort Worth which has been a night and day difference for me and my family nowadays.
Some lessons I’ve learned along the way is that making hard choices and being assertive in those decisions is not always easy, but it is the most rewarding.
Learn to be okay with being uncomfortable sometimes!
Being uncomfortable in a new season of life just means that you’re stepping out of your box and a better version of you is on the other side of that box… if that makes sense!
Prioritize yourself and those you care about. Your wellbeing matters!
For those reading this, I want you to know that if you’re in my chair, I will always prioritize you! I will be your zen for the few hours you’re with me, all while giving you gorgeous hair as well!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My ideal must go places in the city would start off with coffee! I am a huge coffee lover. I actually used to be a barista for a couple years before pursuing hair. Some of my favorites around DFW are Cherry in Fort Worth, Crude Craft Coffee in Fort Worth and Wayward Coffee in Dallas. You can’t go wrong with any of their seasonal drinks or a lavender latte!
Next stop, some brunch! One of my favorites is Press Cafe- there you’ll find an assortment of yummy foods for any meal of the day and you can’t forget their espresso martini!
To end the evening, my ideal dinner spots are Piattello’s Italian Kitchen or Wabi House.
If we’re lucky, we would catch a concert or a broadway show! Some of my favorites shows/artists I’ve seen are Wicked, Mamma Mia, Harry Styles, Sabrina Carpenter and Taylor Swift!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There’s so many amazing people who have shaped me into who I am today.
Starting off, of course, with my parents who have always encouraged me to pursue the things I’m passionate about.
My husband and my babies. Having their support through the long hours of cosmetology school has now allowed me the opportunity to be a business owner, which in turn, allows me to spend more time with my kids as they grow up. That is something I will always cherish.
Lastly, my clients. Whether you saw me once in beauty school, or you are a lifetime client of mine now, I am forever grateful for you, for your trust, and for giving me, the confidence I have now behind the chair.
