Meet Dr. Paul Salfen | Author, GOING FOR IT!

We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Paul Salfen and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dr. Paul, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I’ve always gravitated towards the arts and those are my people. I’ve taken boring corporate office jobs before and have tried my hand at a few professions but I keep going back to being creative and working with creatives – I believe it’s my calling.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My story is a unique one: I’ve always wanted to interview my favorite musicians and after a misunderstood assignment in high school, I started doing just that. The teacher actually meant bands in the school but the bug had already bit me. I kept going in college and co-created one of the first online music magazines and haven’t stopped since – except now I’m on TV, on the radio, and in magazines and newspapers. I wrote a book called GOING FOR IT!, which has a lot of the best stuff in there. It’s been a long, hard journey but the lesson has been to never give up.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I was always the right person to ask because I loved going out to all of the best places and would make multiple stops in a night but now I’m super healthy and make limited appearances but a good steak is always in order so I’d say Nuri Steakhouse or the classic Al Biernat’s or Terry Black’s if they want barbecue and Monarch if they want the views but honestly, I love the independent hole in the wall spots that you’ve probably never heard of the most. Then going to see a play, a game, or concert is always fun, but you know where to go for that.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I couldn’t have done what I’ve done and continue to do what I do without the unlimited support of my family, the love of a great woman, having great friends, and the grace of God.
