Meet Ruby Lopez | Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Ruby Lopez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ruby, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My passion for photography started at a very young age. I had an uncle who was constantly filming or photographing something, which sparked my interest for it. I started going to photo-booths constantly to take pictures with my cousin, I started filming or pretending to film concerts or shows we would put together at home. I also loved to take pictures on disposable or film cameras and polaroids, which are still some of my favorite ways to take pictures to this day! Then as I got older the thought came to mind of learning digital photography and actually doing something with it. So I decided to take a leap of faith and start pursuing photography professionally and everything that came along with it. I did a lot of research and watched a ton of videos to help my growth as much as I could. I was definitely very nervous about the unknown. I had so many thoughts of failure, but the thought of my business not growing was even more nerve-racking. But I took the chance anyway; I had to look past the negative thoughts and run with it.

What sets your brand apart? How did you get to where you are today professionally? Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about your brand and story?
What sets me apart is that I didn’t go to school for photography, I just had a passion for it. I took advantage of the stage of life I was in to pursue photography and learn as much as I could. That gave me the opportunity I needed to grow. I’m proud of where God has taken my business so far with that growth. He’s given me some really amazing opportunities in a short amount of time. He’s opened so many doors that have now gotten me into shooting weddings. That was a big goal of mine to be able to do that but I knew I needed experience and a certain level of excellence. I’m excited to see what’s to come!
Getting to where I am today was far from easy, I had many challenges that could’ve stopped me. I had just moved to Texas from California, knew no one, was in my third trimester with my second child; battled the fears of failure, and wondered if as a stay at home mom this was a good idea. I didn’t allow the challenges that came my way to stop me from pushing through. I will say; I am beyond lucky to have a husband who pushes me, believes in my work, and cheers me on like no other! Without the help of God, my husband and the amazing people I’ve met along the way; I probably would’ve never started my business and gave up that dream. I’ve learned that to get to where you want to be, you have to overcome EVERY thought and know if God gave you that skill and ability, it’s because you were made for it. It’s easy to give up but doing the hard things is what makes you better in all sorts of ways.
That’s why I don’t want people to hear Ru.b.photography and label me as another photographer; I want people to relate to me and be encouraged when they hear my story. I aspire for people to label Ru.b.Photography as a strong, resilient women, with an amazing story behind that camera!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Because I am a mom of three, I’m very family-oriented, but I believe good food makes for a good time. If I had to write an itinerary this would be my food, drink, or hang out recommendations for anyone. I’d start with breakfast at Biscuit Bar, followed by coffee at Cherry Coffee shop, or La La Land Cafe. We would then head out to walk around either Sundance Square, the Stockyards, or the Dallas farmers market it’s all easy walking and possibly easy shopping. For lunch, it’d be one of my two favorite places, Station 330 (they have the best appetizers, my favorite is the corn on the cob), or Eagles Point, the Brussels sprouts there are amazing! Then we would follow that with a trip to the botanical gardens, I love the walk and the verity of different types of gardens. We’d end the day by going to any of these 3 amazing restaurants for dinner, Risky’s BBQ if your looking for some good affordable BBQ, Mexican Sugar, for good Latin American food; or my personal favorite Pappadeaux’s (in Fort Worth), everything about this place is amazing! They have some of the best service, great food with an amazing view of the trinity trail, and give you the best complimentary bread while you wait! You really can’t go wrong with them!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
John Ibarra, he’s been my biggest cheerleader and supporter through it all! He’s an amazing husband and father who puts my needs first ALWAYS! He speaks life over me, my business, my visions and dreams. I would not have been able to do this without the help of him.
