We had the good fortune of connecting with Dfame and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dfame, why did you pursue a creative career?
Ever since I was little, I always knew I was a creative person. I used to write books (mostly fantasy novels) in middle school and throughout high school. My older brother and I would also draw comics and create these insane adventures and stories from our imagination. Did I think I’d grow up to be a writer though? No, I did not. I knew I was very good at poetry and combined it with my singing ability, which led to me writing my first song. Songwriting was a great way for me to express the thoughts and emotions I could not verbalize! With that said, I knew that I could help others that were suffering from depression by sharing my stories with them. It really only takes one voice to make a difference. After someone told me that they could relate to a song that I wrote (which is always a great feeling), I used that power to continue shining a light for others to follow. In other words, I decided to pursue an artistic career because I wanted to connect with people and help them get through their adversity.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Without experience, there isn’t much for an artist to write about. Almost every musician that I know has gone through SOME kind of trauma to get to where they’re at today. Unsurprisingly, I am one of those people too. I went through a lot of trauma as a kid, so I had to fortify my mind quickly or else I was going to disappear into the dark. Despite the tribulations that I went through, I never gave up on my dream of being a singer. Mind you, I was singing from a very young age, but those shower concerts weren’t going to last forever. I joined my high school choir and realized that I could sing bass, baritone, and tenor (despite being a natural tenor). After high school, I was actually going to go into psychology and forget about the music dream, but that’s when my first adult life experience hit. Getting into a relationship. Within months, I had gathered enough experience to write more music and express all of my thoughts and emotions, until I eventually realized that music was the path I belonged on. After one relationship ended and led into another, I became more focused on my music and how my personal experiences could affect other people.

I had a habit of giving my heart away too quickly, and I learned not to do so the hard way by getting cheated on. On top of that, I was also in an abusive environment. Writing about these topics were difficult at first, but then it was like I could slowly feel the pain drifting out of me and onto the paper. It was then when I realized that songwriting was healing for me. To push through that adversity with my head held high is something I’ll always be proud of myself for. I could’ve given up, but I didn’t. I could’ve succumbed to the pain I endured, but instead, I used that pain as strength for me to get back up.

When people tell me that they can relate to one of my songs, it’s truly heartwarming because I always put 110% into every song that I write. Songwriting is a remedy for me, and even though it’s not for everybody, there are numerous ways to heal a broken heart. I always tell people to pursue their passions and never give up because we only have one life.

I think my determination sets me apart from others. I can write, produce, and record a full song in one day while others take 3-7 (or more) days. Once I have a goal in mind, I do everything I can to achieve that goal while it’s still in my mind because my memory is honestly not the best! If I start something and don’t finish it, I will forget about it, which can be a good and bad thing sometimes! Since I work pretty quickly, I’ve released multiple albums, amassed over 200k streams (so far), and I’ve performed at the Dallas Soul Food Festival. I plan on going on a local tour this summer with my newest album (Chasing Waterfalls) that released on May 9th, and my goal is to increase my local fanbase!

I want the world to know that music is a remedy whether you’re writing it or listening to it. Personally, it saved my life. Now my goal is to help others one song at a time. You can find my music on all platforms, and you can find my website on Google (Dfame Records).

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
To be honest, I don’t know a lot of people, so I don’t venture out much.

Although, Klyde Warren Park is a beautiful spot with numerous fancy restaurants right across the street from it. Another artist and I recorded a music video here two years ago, and the water fountains were a super pretty touch. The Galleria Mall is another place that I highly recommend because it’s unlike any other mall in the area. Don’t get me started on the food you’ll find there!

Up in Lewisville, you’ll find a phenomenal lake park that sits right next to Lewisville Lake (which is amazing!). Looking for good food and live music? Sneaky Pete’s sits right on the lake and offers an amazing menu full of seafood and drinks you’ll love.

Whenever I want to have some alone time with nature, I always take a visit to Central Park (in Lewisville). The scenery and connection you’ll feel with nature is incredible, and there are plenty of walking paths and rivers for you to explore!

Located in Grapevine, you’ll find the Grapevine Mills Mall which isn’t as crowded as the Galleria in Dallas, but you’ll still find it bustling with shoppers going in and out of endless retail stores. It even has a bowling alley, Rainforest Café, and movie theater!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Lyrically, a lot of my music is inspired by my partner, Aussie Harding. Although our relationship has been a whirlwind of ups and downs, we’ve always been there for each other, and he’s always been a huge influence on a lot of things that I talk about in my music. Without him, I wouldn’t be able to use my experiences with love to connect with others. He deserves a lot of credit, and I’m thankful for his love and support.
