Meet Sona Pokharel

We had the good fortune of connecting with Sona Pokharel and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sona, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
My idea of work-life balance has changed a lot over the years. I used to think it meant doing everything, all the time—showing up for work, content creation, social plans, and everyone else’s needs. Saying no was really hard for me because I care about people and didn’t want to hurt their feelings or disappoint anyone, and honestly I am a restless person in general who needs to be busy all the time.
But over time, I realized that constantly having to do something and putting others first was leaving me drained. I’ve learned that honoring my own needs isn’t selfish – it’s necessary. While I’m still not perfect at it, I now prioritize “me time” without guilt. I’ve gotten more comfortable saying no when I need to protect my energy or simply rest.
One of the biggest shifts? Choosing rest over pressure. Going to bed by 10 p.m. feels amazing—waking up refreshed, getting a workout in, and being productive feels so much better than being out all night and having to reset or recover the entire next day. That doesn’t mean I don’t go out or have fun – I absolutely do! But I’ve found a rhythm that works best for me.
Balance, for me, is about intention and listening to my body. It’s fluid, it’s personal, and it’s a form of self-respect I love to give myself.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Professionally, I wear a few hats, and I love that about my journey. By day, I’m a full-time Human Resources Manager in the hospitality industry. By passion, I’m a content creator working with brands I genuinely believe in, sharing everything from beauty and fashion to wellness and lifestyle. I’m also pursuing my second master’s degree in Human Resources, so you could say I thrive in organized chaos!
What sets me apart is my ability to show up authentically in both spaces. I don’t believe you have to be one thing. You can be career-driven and creative. You can work a 9–5 and chase your passions on the side. You can show up polished and talk about the messy behind-the-scenes. I take pride in being multi-dimensional and in creating content that feels real and relatable, not just curated for likes.
One thing I always say is: if you see a piece of content from me, know that I genuinely had fun creating it. I want people to feel the joy and intention behind what I put out. That energy matters.
The road here wasn’t easy. I’ve faced burnout, imposter syndrome, and the constant juggle of deadlines, shifting algorithms, and brand expectations, while managing a demanding career and pursuing higher education. There were moments I felt like I had to choose, but I’ve learned the power of boundaries, routines, and most importantly, grace. Grace for myself when I drop the ball, when I need a break, or when life gets overwhelming.
One of my proudest accomplishments is the community I’ve built online. I started posting during the pandemic just to stay creative, and now I’ve had the honor of working with many different renowned brands like 24HourFitness, MAC Cosmetics, Victor&Rolf, and many more. But even more meaningful than brand deals is the trust I’ve built. I never recommend anything I don’t personally use or love. That integrity matters to me.
I want the world to know that behind the photos and reels is a woman who’s worked incredibly hard, failed, pivoted, and kept going. My story isn’t perfect, but it’s real, and if I can inspire someone to embrace their journey, own their power, and take up space unapologetically, then I’ve done my job.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oh, I live for being the ultimate hostess when my best friend visits! Dallas has so much to offer for singles – amazing food, great vibes, hidden gems, and the perfect mix of fun and chill, so I know me and my best friend would absolutely love this plan!
Here’s how I’d plan the ultimate week:
Day 1: Chill Arrival + Sunset Views
We’d start with pizza at Mister O1 – their pizza is SO good and the atmosphere is just the right mix of casual and cool. Then we’d catch sunset views at Sky Blossom for a fun cocktail to kick off the trip. Perfect spot for meeting people, or just enjoying the view!
Day 2: Foodie Day + Downtown Adventures
Breakfast at La La Land Kind Café because the vibes AND the mission are beautiful and their latte is just pure magic, then a trip to The Dallas Museum of Art and maybe Klyde Warren Park for some people-watching and food trucks. For lunch or dinner, we’d go all in at Cattleack BBQ—hands down one of the best BBQ spots in Dallas. We’d wrap up the night at Babous for the live jazz, cocktails and cozy vibes.
Day 3: Self-Care & Shopping
Morning walk with Glacier at Katy Trail, followed by coffee at Ascension. Then off to Relâche Spa at the Gaylord Texan for a dreamy facial and massage. After, we’d explore some shops at NorthPark Center. Dinner would be at Uchi Dallas—their sushi is unmatched, and the whole experience feels elevated but chill.
Day 4: Content Creation & Cafe Hopping
We’d plan outfits and hit Instagrammable spots like Paradiso, The Village, and Funny Library at the Virgin Hotel. Dinner at Monarch to keep the aesthetic and flavor level top tier.
Day 5: Culture + Cocktails
A full day exploring Bishop Arts District—walking through local boutiques, snapping mural pics, and grabbing a sweet treat at Emporium Pies. Then over to Deep Ellum for a gritty, artsy vibe, live music, and dinner. We’d find a fun speakeasy or rooftop to wrap it up. Vidorra Dallas has amazing mango margaritas, and their birria tacos are my absolute favorite!
Day 6: Nature, Nourishment & a Little Friendly Competition
We’d start the day with a refreshing morning hike at Arbor Hills Nature Preserve—it’s peaceful, scenic, and the perfect way to reset. After working up a sweat, we’d head to Everbowl for a delicious açaí bowl (because health and happiness, always!). Since I love a good activity and a little competition never hurts, we’d hit up Main Event for arcade games, bowling, and good laughs.
Day 7: Goodbye Coffee + Reflections
One last coffee run to White Rhino, walk around the neighborhood, soak in the last bit of time together, and talk about all our favorite moments from the trip before the airport goodbyes. You’ll probably make a friend or two before you leave—Dallas is great like that!
Dallas is such a vibe—it’s full of passionate people, bold food, and amazing places that never stop inspiring me. Whether you’re here to unwind, turn up, or meet someone new, this city gives you both!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I truly believe I wouldn’t be where I am today without the incredible support system I have around me.
First, my family deserves the biggest shoutout. I have the coolest family – my mom and dad are absolutely hilarious, brutally honest in the best way, and always keep me grounded. Their support is insane, and I love how understanding and open they’ve been throughout every twist and turn in my journey. Then there’s my little sister, who is truly my best friend. She knows when something’s off without me even saying a word, and just talking/discussing life to her makes everything better.
I am also surrounded by some truly amazing friends who are there for me and who genuinely support me through it all. They are special to me because I can be myself and I can trust them no matter what.
I also feel incredibly lucky to genuinely love my job. My coworkers and boss have been nothing short of amazing. They support my career growth, my grad school goals, and even my content creation. They’ve created a space where I can bring my full self to work and still have the flexibility and balance to pursue the things I’m passionate about outside the 9–5. That’s rare, and I never take it for granted.
Beyond that, I have to credit the incredible online community I’ve grown with over the years. Some I’ve met, others I haven’t – but the mutual support, inspiration, and creativity we share is something really special.
And of course, I can’t forget my big baby boy Glacier – my little celebrity, content co-star, and emotional support pup. He’s been with me through it all.
There’s no such thing as doing it alone, and I’m so grateful for everyone who’s helped me grow into the version of me I am today.
