Today we’re excited to be connecting with Andrea Davis again. If you haven’t already, we suggest you check out our prior conversation with them here.

Andrea, thanks for joining us again. Just to level set a bit for folks who may have missed our last interview together, can you briefly introduce yourself?
Thank you for reconnecting! Since our last conversation, my practice has grown significantly. I now run two entities: the nonprofit Dallas Art Therapy and my private practice, Davis Art Therapy and Counseling, both based in Richardson, Texas.

In both spaces, I continue to use the transformative power of art to help individuals heal, grow, and thrive. What sets us apart is our focus on creativity as a therapeutic tool and our commitment to making art therapy accessible to the community. Dallas Art Therapy focuses on providing community programs and outreach, while Davis Art Therapy and Counseling offers the option f using insurance for personalized, private sessions to address the unique needs of individuals.

My journey has always been driven by my passion for the intersection of art and mental health. Over the years, I’ve been fortunate to see the field of art therapy grow and gain recognition, and I remain dedicated to advocating for its inclusion in broader mental health services. Whether it’s supporting clients through personal challenges or advancing the field through community efforts, my work is about creating opportunities for healing and self-expression.

Alright, so our main goal today is to give our audience an update on what you have been up to since our last conversation. We’d love to hear how things are going and what you are most looking forward to or excited about these days.
At Dallas Art Therapy, we are proud to offer a variety of programs designed to serve diverse communities through the power of art. Our SOS (Sarah’s Open Studio) group provides a supportive space for adults navigating stress, anxiety, or life transitions. The Teen Art Club encourages creative self-expression and connection for teens as they explore their identity and build confidence. Additionally, we continue our impactful work with veterans, offering specialized art therapy sessions that promote healing and resilience in those who have served our country.

Recently, we started working with After 8 to Educate bringing art therapy to teens experiencing being un-housed.

In April, we are thrilled to host the Anita Mester Symposium, this year focused on healing trauma with creativity, its an event dedicated to fostering professional development within the community. Through these programs and events, we strive to provide inclusive, accessible opportunities for healing and growth, embodying our mission of making art therapy a vital part of mental health care.

Alright, so let’s do something a bit more fast-paced and lighthearted. We call this our lightning round and we’ll ask you a few quick questions.

What would the perfect day look like for you? Please give us as many details as possible.
My perfect day would start in a ceramic studio, surrounded by the soothing rhythm of shaping clay and the quiet hum of creativity. There’s something grounding about working with my hands, letting the process of creating unfold naturally. The tactile connection to the materials and the freedom to experiment make the studio a place of both relaxation and inspiration for me.

Later, I’d spend time with close friends, sharing good food, laughter, and meaningful conversations. Whether we’re reminiscing or dreaming about the future, these connections always leave me feeling energized and grateful. A day filled with art, creativity, and the warmth of friendship is my idea of perfection.
