Cursium Perficio, ‘ I will stand the course’. It’s the motto for Clan Hunter; the basic translation is ‘I will complete the course’, but my grandfather who is an immigrant used ‘stand’ and I tend to believe him over Google…HA! It’s on his grave and our family crest. My father used to always say it to me during difficult times in my life. ‘It’s in the blood’, ‘stand the course’…he’d say ‘get up and walk’. Success in the soulpreneur world is different than in my previous world owning an insurance agency. Often success is measured by sales or production or reaching quotas and most often money. When I started Soul Re Re Re I didn’t understand that the yardstick I had used to measure success in insurance had to be thrown out. I think there is a lot of misunderstanding around what the profession of art therapy is. Many folks will refer to Art therapists as the “craft lady” while crafts are fun art therapy happens in the context of the therapeutic relationship between the Art therapist and the client. Leaving my corporate job to become a stay-at-home mom was a significant challenge. I feared losing my career and the independence it provided since I had experienced a divorce prior. Society often undervalues stay-at-home mothers, and even my own mom reinforced that negative view.
