We had the good fortune of connecting with Lori & Jenny and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lori, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
We created Story Finders Books when, as moms, we struggled to find age-appropriate books for our own children who were strong readers. As our children got older, we realized that they were developing extensive reading vocabularies. However, just because a nine-year-old can read at a ninth-grade level doesn’t mean that he should read books written at that level. We believe that the content and themes in the books our kids read should match their emotional maturity level, not outpace it, and we want our children to read beautiful stories of bravery, courage, and virtue.

We knew that we weren’t the only ones who were leading busy lives while trying to find time to pre-screen all of the books our avid readers were bringing home, so we launched Story Finders Books in order to provide great books for families that kids will love. We have a specific passion to provide peace of mind for parents while harnessing the power of stories to build character in children.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We are proud that we send children great stories that inspire virtue. No two monthly boxes are the same, and we spend countless hours reading and researching to bring our readers the very best. We love getting to know our “subscription kids” all over the United States; people would be surprised to know the thought and effort involved in getting to know a child’s reading tastes and curating books for each one individually.

We’re very excited about the book fairs we are able to offer to homeschool groups and co-ops! In the past, these groups have often not been able to host a book fair due to their small size, but now they can with Story Finders. We love getting to know the specific needs of a particular group, curating a selection of books for their event, and providing them with all the technology they need to make their book fair successful.

Launching a business has forced us to learn and acquire knowledge in many areas, including sales tax, web design, advertising, and business licensing, just like many other entrepreneurs. However, the best lesson we have learned is that working with your best friend can really be a dream come true. We work really well together because we respect and trust one another, and we have very complementary skill sets.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We both live in Keller, so a visit to A House with Books would definitely be on the list! We’d hope for a beautiful day to eat outside at Joe T Garcia’s in Fort Worth, and we’d definitely catch a Texas Rangers game during baseball season.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
We couldn’t have launched or continued Story Finders without our supportive husbands and children, who listened to us dream about starting a business for years before we actually did! They help us with everything from taxes, to assembling boxes, and generously giving us book reviews. We are so grateful for their support and encouragement. We also love and appreciate our marketing team of one, Kaitlin! She makes us look good!
