We had the good fortune of connecting with Jack Burkitt and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jack, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I was just tired of feeling stuck in place at my 9-5. One day in August of 2020 i realized I didn’t want to be stuck working for “the man” for the rest of my life so I made a 5 year plan that would set me up to where I Could walk away from all that in 5 years.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Back in 2020 my father wanted to get into business with me. So we work shopped a few ideas and decided that we wanted to start a marketing agency. Of course at the time we didn’t know the first thing about running a marketing agency, so I took out a loan and went to school for Digital Marketing at Kansas State. Once I graduated we created our own agency but we didn’t have any money to start the way we wanted to, so my father partnered with a close buddy of his and they started buying and looking into partnering with telemarketing agencies. While they were doing that I was still working full time at FedEx Ground as a safety supervisor saving money to put into the business. In 2022 I started partnering online with other businesses promoting their services and products gaining a following on social media, and building relationships for our Agency. I did that until the beginning of 2024 when I started partnering with construction companies and running ads and creating leads, and in may my father got in contact with a representative for AT&T small business and we switched our focus to selling AT&T small business services, and now we’re the first providers of AT&T small business services in The Kansas City Metro Area! And I’m very proud to say that, it took a while to get where we are now and we have a long way to go still but I’m happy to say that I no longer worry about how I’m going to pay the bills at the beginning of the month!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
A buddy of mine is coming down to Kansas City soon so I love this question!
We’ll start with the location.
-Personally, I’m a big fan of the Westport neighborhood in Kansas City so I set my buddy up to stay at the AC hotel in Westport. It’s close to all the best spots in that area not to mention I work in that area.
-My favorite fast food joints are in that area and are always open late so if we’re having a night out of fun at tin roof or the landing, we can grab a late night snack at Chick-in waffle or Dave’s hot chicken(I’m a fried chicken fan sue me).
-As far as entertainment goes, if you’re looking for a live spot to get a drink Westport is perfect! I personally like to take my guests to Throwback KC and Off-key for some karaoke and drinks, then I like to follow that up with a trip to Lotus a late night club in Westport.
– For food I love to go to La Nueva Taqueria in Westport. Shoutout to my guy Vicinte
– Day 2 Entertainment, we might hit power and light district to catch a show at Kansas City Live or visit the College Basketball Hall of Fame Museum.
-Day 3 I like to end with a blast! Usually a chiefs game or a current Game this time of year, if it’s may definitely a royals game.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to shoutout my parents. I don’t care if it’s a corny thing to say they’ve been my biggest inspiration in life, my father’s work ethic is always inspiring, his will to never give up and always try new things is what inspired me to leap away from a 9-5. My mothers compassion and kindness inspires me to stay grounded and humble and always look to reach out and connect to people.
