We had the good fortune of connecting with Bellami Shannon and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Bellami, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
Since starting my bakery, it has been only me. At first, my work life balance was tough and not leveled out at all. I did go through many nights of staying up all night till the morning finishing up orders. At this point, I have learned how to balance it all out. I learn that it is ok to say “No, I’m booked and cannot get you in last minute..” I have a limit of how many orders I accept daily and I make sure I take off for special occassions and when I need a break to refresh and restart.

What should our readers know about your business?
I started my small baking business at the end of 2018. Bellami’s Sweets was only cookies. Then I had good friend that trusted me with her wedding cake & treats in 2020. From then on, I have been offering custom cakes, cupcakes, cookies, cake pops, brownies, dessert cups, cheesecakes, cookie cakes and dipped treats. I have learned to understand my worth. I put alot of time, creativity & my own personal touch into every single order.. and it shows!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I live in Fort Worth but enjoy places all over the DFW. I am a foodies, so we would definitely go eat delicious authentic Mexican food at the La Playa Maya on the Westside of Fort Worth, Jamacian food at Jamaica Gates in Arlington and have pho at Wonderpho off of Hulen Street. I love shopping, so we would visit the Tanger Outlets off of highway 35 and Buc-ee’s next door. The Grapevine Mills Mall is a great spot to shop, as well. If it is summer, we would go to Burger’s Lake for some fun in the sun or go to 7th street in Fort Worth for the night life.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have a huge support system. First, I would love to recognize my mom because she is the one who taught me how to bake & supports me always. Of course, my amazing husband and kids that push me to perfect my craft. Also, I’m thankful for the seasoned bakers that have been in this baking game longer than me, who have helped guide me & give me advice. Also, I dedicate it to all my loyal customers who continue to refer me any chance they get and bring in more and more business for me everyday. All the love and support never goes unnoticed and is always appreciated! ❤️
