We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexis Smith and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alexis, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
Lexie’s Levels of Gaming + Life is an online community for gamers of all ages and anyone who wants a community where they can grow socially, emotionally, physically, and spiritually. Originally, it was created as a safe space for kids to game, connect, have fun, and receive tutoring help. It has expanded in the last two years to provide a space where adults can game, grow, and connect. The organization offers connections through community events, quality check-ins online and in-person for members, and partners with a company to provide free high-quality tutoring services for kids.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Creativity is how I stand out in the different areas of my life. Although being an artist is not my career, I use creativity in my workplace, church, and business. In my previous workplaces, I volunteered to create incentives and projects to keep students engaged during class and after school. In addition, I decorated the hallways and classrooms so that the environment was welcoming for the students. At my current workplace, I bring creative ideas to my team to keep the community engaged with our administrative team and our contractors. With a large online company, my team prioritized making sure that we have maintained a sense of community. I have introduced icebreaker activities and led projects to help celebrate culture and holidays to keep the company engaged. At church, I have developed schedules for kids church around gaming, nutrition, and academics. With my business Lexie’s Levels of Gaming + Life, I stream 3 to 4 times weekly to provide a family-friendly hangout space for viewers of all ages. Outside of the stream, we have movie and game nights. Also, I host local community events, such as back-to-school drives and game party sleepovers.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend visited Memphis, I would take them to some of my favorite local restaurants and show them my favorite hobbies. For Monday, we would have brunch at Sunrise Memphis after sleeping in. After brunch, we would head to the Paradiso movie theater to enjoy a good movie. We have always enjoyed naptime, so after that, we would go back to the hotel to nap. Following a much-needed nap, we would grab some Chick-fil-A for dinner. From Tuesday through Thursday, we would go to some of my favorite places each morning and grab quick things to eat in between, such as Dunkin Donuts and Starbucks. I would take her to Mud Island, Painting with a Twist, Go Ape Zipline and Adventure Park, ax throwing, and bowling. After naps, we would order from some of our favorite restaurants throughout the week, such as Olive Garden and American Deli. We would relax at the hotel on Friday after a week of adventure but order food from Rise Southern Biscuits & Righteous Chicken and Perkins Restaurant & Bakery. On Saturday, we’d go by my family’s house to cook brunch then head over to Seize the Clay to paint some ceramics. From there, I would take her to Redlands for an early dinner in preparation for church the next day. Lastly, I would take her to my church Reformation Memphis on Sunday. After service, we would do a quick brunch at Another Broken Egg before heading to the airport.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I dedicate this shoutout to three groups of people. Thank you to my pastors who have nurtured a church where I have grown and matured. With your leadership, I learned how to walk in my purpose confidently as a daughter and woman of God. Thank you for your love and support as you both continuously push me to be my best version. To my church kiddos, thank you for encouraging me to start streaming and being the founding members of The Tribe. All four of you consistently played the game with me as I invested more in enhancing my gaming skills and broadcasting. You will always be the OG VIPs. Most importantly, I thank God for leading me back to my hometown after my undergraduate where I was planted in the environment that has shaped this new version of me.
