Meet Camille Salvador | Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Camille Salvador and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Camille, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I didn’t choose an artistic or creative career, it chose me. lol.
Jokes aside, I cannot imagine nor am I able to do anything else.
I was born to be creative and trying to do anything else negatively affects my well being.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
The Big Flower Company is a business that I started during an illness that almost ended me and now it is a business that is taking me to new heights I never thought I would reach.
A flower can grow anywhere and just like a flower, so can hope and joy.
I found a way to bring joy to myself and others and that, to me, is true success.
My illness and being on the autistic spectrum is a huge struggle for me in day to day life.
The smiles I see on people’s faces when they see my big flowers is what keeps me going. It gives me hope and fills me with joy.
Life as in business is full of ups and downs and inevitable changes. Creating something beautiful that everyone can enjoy helps balance things out.
And it is important for me to be able to use as many of my artistic skills as possible.
I started my business making flower lamps then I expanded into making big flower installations and now I’m diversifying into floral themed products, apparel, paintings and drawings.
Branding creates a wonderful opportunity for me to do a little bit of everything.

The sky’s the limit!

I’m going to keep pushing forward and growing my business and I just hope to see some more smiles along the way. 🙂

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well this question isn’t far from reality since I am new to Texas.
I personally love nature, of course, and would definitely hit the Japanese Garden in Fort Worth.
The botanical gardens in Fort Worth and Dallas.
Kayaking and biking the Trinity Trails is a must!
I haven’t been out dining a lot but I am planning on a BBQ tour.
Del Friscos Double Eagle Steakhouse was a great dining experience and we would have to treat ourselves to that at least once.
I am dying to check out The Reunion Tower and The Dallas World aquarium and of course the famous stockyards.
Hopefully I will get to do that all that really soon!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to give a shoutout to Creatives Rebuild New York, Lauren Tanchum of Cafe Joust and Foreland of Catskill, NY.

Before I moved to Texas, I was living in New York and had gotten very ill, unable to work much.

As an artist you already struggle with making ends meet, let alone being ill.

I applied for CRNY’s financial assistance for artists and received it!

Programs like that save lives.
If it wasn’t for them, I would not be where I am today.

Their program helped me during my recovery stage and also enabled me to pursue my creative endeavors.

Lauren Tanchum of Cafe Joust and Foreland Catskills were the first places to believe in me and commission my big flowers.

All which led me to the creation of over 100 big flowers for Sundance Square that was featured last year during the Dia Del Las Muertos Celebration.
And that installation ultimately led me to my move here to Fort Worth TX!
