We had the good fortune of connecting with Kita Rose and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kita, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I always knew I was creative and had a passion to create. I’m not ashamed to say Ive worked a large number (over 20) of jobs in the span of my life. I often joke that as easily as I can get a job I will quit that job if it’s not positively serving me positively, or helping the progression of my career. One job I never quit no matter how hard life or finances got was creating. I knew I had a passion for creating content because I did it every day without getting paid. I realized at that moment that creating content whether it be skits, commentary, or rants was a calling for me and ultimately my purpose.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
From a young age, I knew I had something to say about everything and everyone! I loved giving my opinions unfiltered and unsolicited. One day I had an idea to make a short minute video about my experiences dating and from that one video my newfound career was born. From that moment, almost every day for 4 years I created short videos about my thoughts on just about everything from celebrity relationships, motherhood, mental health, etc. Now when I started creating it was so exciting. To wake up and dive into my creative world and see what I could come up with that day gave me a sense of purpose and joy. Now, when I started getting paid for these videos I quickly realized that my passion and hobby that I enjoyed in my spare time was turning into a JOB, and if you know me you know I hate working lol. It got to a point where I experienced burnout and decided I wanted to take a break from it all. I had to sit with myself and determine that even though this was something I loved to do, it was a job at the end of the day because it was how I sustained life and because of this I could not create every single day. Just like any other job I needed to establish a reasonable work-life balance so that I could maintain my personal life, social media, and my job. No matter what you do, no matter how lucrative the job is, or how much you love the job you must take a break when you need it, never become a slave to anything. Never let a job rule you and your life. I want the world to know that my brand is about showing up authentically as yourself and standing on what you believe no matter how society might perceive you. Experience is the best teacher.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Now I’m not going to lie, because I travel so often my favorite place to be in the city is my HOME. However, I will slide to XOXO restaurant for some really good lamb chops and drinks with my friends. I would take my closest friends to BIG T’s to grab a bite or buy some clothes for the club. When im with my family i love taking them to Klyde Warren park and grabbing something from the many food trucks that are there.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
In 2016 I got out of the military and went straight to college, I wanted to major in journalism but after realizing I had more of a knack for talking than writing I switched my major to Media Arts. A couple of years after graduation I felt like I picked the wrong degree field, I knew I wanted to be on the radio but every radio professional told me college wasn’t necessary and that getting into the job field was next to impossible. In 2023, Dede Mcguire took a chance and hired me to be her co-host on the very popular morning show Dede in the morning. My first shot at radio was a nationally syndicated morning show, which is one of the most respected positions in radio! Shout out to Dede, the hardest-working woman in the radio game! Without her and the opportunity she gave me, I think I would’ve given up on the thought of being on the radio.
