We had the good fortune of connecting with Heidi McLain and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Heidi, how does your business help the community?
I absolutely love what I do! As a Relationship Coach I have the privilege of helping individuals improve their relationship with themselves and others. This leads to individuals finding their purpose and living a joyful, robust and fulfilling life. As my clients connect with their authentic selves, they in turn are able to connect with others in deep and meaningful ways. The result of this is that they find greater success in their careers, they strengthen friendship bonds and build connections in their community, and they find more passion and fulfillment in their romantic relationships.
What should our readers know about your business?
I will help you clear out all the “junk” you’ve said to yourself about yourself throughout your life and falsely believed that has kept you stuck and feeling powerless in your world. As you come to realize what an amazing human being you are, you will also be given the tools to connect, resolve conflict, and communicate in a relevant and productive way. There is so much heartache in the world due to the things we say about ourselves to ourselves, and then compound that pain by making assumptions and taking things so personally in our relationships with others.
What sets me apart from others is that I share from a place of experience and science that helped me to heal and overcome my own life’s challenges. Because I have been in the trenches and successfully made it out to the other side, it gives my clients confidence that I understand their journey, will have compassion for what they are going through, helps them know that they too can overcome their own challenges, and gives them hope that they will find joy and success on the other side.
After being given up for adoption at the age of one, I believed I was worthless, not good enough and had huge abandonment issues. From these beliefs I often had suicidal thoughts and even made a couple of suicide attempts. As a teen I turned to alcohol for relief and instead of relief, I only found addiction. Through my faith, the grace of God, loved ones and through AA I was able to overcome addiction.
In my late 20’s and early 30’s I was in an abusive marriage. Leaving was hard to do, but healing from it and from my previous abandonment issues was even more difficult. Following my divorce, I wrestled with PTSD and poverty. Though I went to counseling for years, I didn’t feel any hope or see any light in my life. That all changed when I started working with a trauma specialist who specializes in PTSD and Trauma Release. When I began working with a Trauma Specialist, I was able to start healing these deep emotional wounds that had plagued my entire life. I literally needed to change my brain and I did.
As I changed my brain (literally), I found healing, hope, connection, love, light, joy, and meaning in my life. It was completely liberating. Having been in an abusive relationship, I had to unlearn what I experienced, and relearn what a healthy relationship looked like, how to set boundaries, how to communicate, how to resolve conflict, how to forgive, and learn how to practice healthy relationship behaviors.
As I worked with coaches, I went back to school to study Neuroscience, Psychology and Sociology. I attended workshops, seminars, read books, and enrolled in certification programs and through those learning experiences was given the tools I needed and was given opportunities to lead and coach individuals and couples across the nation.
Mind mapping, hypnotherapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, communication and conflict resolution tools literally transform lives. I find great joy sharing these tools and am so fortunate to pay forward what I have learned so others can find hope and healing.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The Dallas/Fort Worth area has so much to offer! I would definitely take friends and loved ones to Hard Eights BBQ in the Colony and then head over to hang out at Grand Scape to catch an outdoor concert. We’d also have to make a day of taking a tour of AT&T Stadium in Arlington where the Dallas Cowboys Play, have dinner at Pappasitos Cantina for some amazing fajitas and amazing margaritas! I’d also scurry them away to spend some time in Grapevine visiting all the quaint shops of Main Street and have lunch at Perry’s Steak House. While in the area, we’d hit up Dimension Escape Rooms in Lewisville. It’s so much fun and so different from other escape rooms. To rest from our adventures, I’d take them to a relaxing spa treatment and then for great laughs at Four Day Weekend.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have been so blessed to have had remarkable coaches and leaders who believed in me, supported me, and have given me the tools to help me to do what I do today.
I’m so grateful for Christi Diamond (The Healing Coach), who helped me heal from past hurts and trauma, she helped me to see my worth, and encouraged and inspired me to start my own business. Through her leadership, she connected me with the Marriage Boot Camp and Life Enrichment Organization where I helped coach hundreds of people on their own healing journey for a little over 5 years.
Through her I met other wonderful coaches such as Sarah Tolbert who is now my colleague, podcast partner (Courageous Living, Life with Sarah and Heidi), and is a Master Coach that I trust implicitly and share clients with. We’re collaborating on some new and exciting programs to share with our clients and I couldn’t be more excited! So stay tuned!
