We had the good fortune of connecting with Mandy Arcane and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mandy, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Ever since I was a little girl, Art has always called me. I never felt drawn to things like math or science, nor was I any good at it. But there was one thing that I always enjoyed and knew I would succeed at. And that was anything that had to do with art. I loved to write, paint, draw, play music, and sing. I wrote my first book when I was only 10 years old. When I turned 11, my parents enrolled me in a performing arts school. There, I learned so much about music, and it confirmed what I had known all along. I was born to create music. I had found my purpose.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am very passionate about my vision. I want to create some thing that people will remember for a long time. Some thing that evokes feeling and create memories for people. I am a bit new to releasing music, considering I only have one song out at the moment. It’s called Thriller by Mandy Arcane on all platforms. But this is just the beginning. I am currently working on an album that is very deep to my heart. This album is honest and I believe that people will connect with it. I have so much I want to create and release. After this album comes out, I plan to release albums in many different genres of music. I hope to cover as many genres I can! Aside from my personal releases. I am also in a cover band called Lush. My dad is my bass player and I am so proud that I get to play with him. We play arena rock hits. I would be lying if I said it was easy getting to where I am today. Growing up I had to deal with things. Nobody should have to go through. I lost my only brother. He was my rock and I miss him every day. Creating music makes me feel close to him and every time I succeed I feel like I’m making him proud. For someone who isn’t sure if they want to try music, my advice would be just to try, what do you have to lose? You might find that music is the best thing to ever happen to you. And if you’re struggling to find a purpose like I once did. Music may be your purpose. I once heard a man say music isn’t for everyone but I strongly disagree. Music isn’t about being good at it or how many streams you get on a song. At the end of the day music as a feeling, it’s a way of life. It’s priceless.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If I had to choose some of my favorite spots in Dallas, they would be, Wonder bar. It is a fun wacky bar that definitely stimulates the senses. I love The Owl Bar. They have an impressive liquor selection with a chill vibe. I love dressing up and going to Legacy West. There are so many incredible restaurants and shops around there. One place that really Sparks my creativity is Arbor Hills. It is a beautiful nature reserve. Lastly, something to note about me is, I absolutely love escape rooms. There are so many places to choose around the area. I’ve been to pretty much all of them, and none of them have disappointed.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to recognize a few people for getting me to where I am today. I’ll start with my parents. When I was born the first thing, my parents did when I got home was play some of their favorite Motown hits. From then on I was hooked, I loved music. I’ve been told that I have a very wide variety of music taste, and I can thank my father, Zak Johnson for that. He made sure to educate me in all different kinds of music and I am forever grateful. I probably wouldn’t have realized my abilities if it weren’t for him. I would also like to thank my three best friends, Chloe Clemente, Taylor Grace, and Emma Clark. Chloe and Taylor are both incredibly talented musicians, whom I look up to every single day. They have pushed me to become a strong person and singer. I couldn’t have done it without them. And Emma has been my rock through the hardest of times. Lastly, I would like to thank Rockstars Of Tomorrow and the owner, Vanessa Cantu. Rockstars gave me the opportunity to be a music teacher, which is some thing I never thought I would ever be able to do. Being able to teach music to people who are just as passionate as I am, is a dream. I don’t know how I got so lucky!
