We had the good fortune of connecting with Suza Lois palefoxredarts and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Suza Lois, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I like to think the artistic path was supplied to me from the cosmos. But this gift from the cosmos, is truly something we all have, it may be in different forms but in order for it to truly be created and formed, we must nurture it. Then we must mold it with what we create and then transform our work into what we can build with the building blocks we learn on the way. I like to imagine that as we do so, we learn more about ourselves and others than when we began. We put our souls into our art and with that we transform and are freed from daily struggles into the cosmos where we all began. To put it lightly, I continue to pursue a career in the arts because without it, life is so much less colorful and if I can make someone’s life that much more creative and lively, I can’t say I would want to do anything else in this life.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Life is chaos. Many, if not all of us are thrown into it with little direction. This was definitely how my life began. Although I did not grow up with much direction and lack of financial security, I grew up with a passion to speak through canvas, “Canvas.” Such a simple word, it creates a vision of a new start, the texture, firm with many small pivots, to be transformed and covered with great things. To be enjoyed by the eyes of many and consumed by multitudes of expression and feelings. A canvas was something my family could not afford growing up. But it didn’t matter to me at such a young age. What mattered was the ability to express my thoughts and emotions with anything I could find. Whether that be creating adventures in my paintings using scrap pieces of paper, or writing short, silly stories or taking adventures in nature to learn the intricate veining of leaves to use later in my art, it was all about the feeling such things would create in me. I am most proud of my ability to continue moving forward and pursuing more avenues to see where I can go from here.
I’m always reaching new goals and pursuing things I never before thought I could be a part of.
I am excited about where I go from here, in the past few years when I’ve really gained traction in my artwork and gaining recognition while pursuing new leads and roads. I currently am speaking with shop owners to become a featured artist in their apothecaries. I will have my own spot in a new shop that is opening soon as well.
I paint what I adore and what inspires me. I currently use mostly acrylic or a mixture of acrylic, oil and mixed media. I love to use and experience different medias and how they interact with one another, not only in the painting but also how they exude certain emotions. I am profusely inspired by dimensions of recent and have been exploring how to use what I create into more dimensional stories that hopefully excite the people who see my work.
Although I mostly paint for myself and what I feel, I am also always available for commission pieces and have begun creating and painting signs for people and their businesses. Which has been an excruciating learning process that I absolutely love having the opportunity to do and am thankful to those who have taken a chance on me and allowed me to have free rein on subject and expression!
I have also recently began working with shops that want to carry my work and am happy to have the opportunity arise. I have been working hard to make this happen and appreciate the chance to keep exceeding goals.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Of course art would be the main objective with family coming out of town! A trip to Nasher Sculpture Center, a stop for a bite at Smash Burger or Vegan Food House would be my go to a fun evening at one of the many arcades that you can also grab a drink at in the area is never a bad idea! And lets not forget to take a ride at Texas Star Ferris Wheel for a truly memorable night.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
