We had the good fortune of connecting with Vempre Terrell, Jr. and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Vempre, what inspires you?
Inspiration—this is a very familiar word in everyday language, yet many people lack inspiration very much in life. For me, God and my family serve as the two biggest inspirations in my life. Prayer, studying biblical scriptures, reflection, and meditation allow me to gain inspiration from God. Whether I am having one of the greatest days of my life or the worst days of my life, the connection that I have with God inspires me to embrace today and optimistically look toward the future. Additionally, my family serves as a great inspiration for me. Regardless which family member who I happen to interact with, they all have positive words and actions ready and waiting to encourage and inspire me. Having a significant connection with God and my family ensures that I move forward in life, not backward or in circles.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Communicating with readers and listeners from a creative standpoint is what sets me apart from others. Times exist when I feel the need to draw connections with others so that I will positively express my feelings, and this allows me to empower myself in an effective manner. Instead of holding my feelings inside and giving them the power to manifest in a way that they should not, I allow myself to take spiritual steps toward greater heights. An example of this took place when I wrote my first book, “The Eyes of Faith.” In this book, I emphasize the importance of viewing life from a positive standpoint with trust in God to bring about blessings, regardless how things may appear on the surface. Reaching new points professionally has not been an easy task. Even so, having a plan has allowed me to progress in life. Although my plan has had to be altered at certain points, I can certainly say that planning is what sets those who succeed apart from those who do not. One of the best lessons that I have learned in life is that allowing the tests today to become the testimonies tomorrow makes a person stand as a victor instead of falling as a victim. A key point that I want the world to know about me is that I am someone who will take my struggles today and do my best to make them become motivations for others tomorrow.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
With the Texas Rangers having made history as the World Series Champions, I would have to take my best friend to Globe Life Field to see where the Texas Rangers play! As the Dallas Cowboys draw attention over and over again, I would also be drawn to take my best friend to the AT&T Stadium to experience what it is like to enjoy their home stadium. Also, I would bring my best friend to Fair Park to have the chance to know what it is like to experience the most visited attraction in the state, which has 5 museums and 10 performance and sporting venues. Knowing that the Dallas Mavericks engage millions of fans, I would definitely have to allow my best friend to enjoy the American Airlines Center. Additionally, my best friend would certainly experience the joy of visiting Dickies Arena. Even with all of this, I would take my best friend downtown to engage in the greatness of the downtown atmosphere. Aside from all the well-known places in the metroplex, my best friend would come with me to small businesses in the area. Small businesses are overlooked time and time again, but I would allow my best friend to enjoy the high number of small businesses that we have in the area. Although an up-and-coming business may not have thousands of customers on a regular basis, my best friend would see what they have to offer here in the metroplex.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My family set the stage for me to become the man who I am today, and their continued support and inspiration keeps me going. From my time as a small child to this very day, the members of my family have wrapped me with encouragement and inspiration on a regular basis, as well as provided me with beneficial role models. My teachers and professors also played a key role in my life. Whether serving as awesome educators or positive role models, these were individuals who brought about motivation within me to become a gentleman who values success. As well, the Word of God is a noteworthy book that has laid a foundation of guidance in my life. The Bible has given me inspiration regarding how to approach and handle situations in my life, as well as provided me with creativity when it comes to writing and speaking to motivate others.
