We had the good fortune of connecting with Radiance Francois and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Radiance, what matters most to you?
Hey! First of all thank you for having me here on Voyage Dallas! What matters to me the most is authenticity! I really had to learn that one the hard way. At one point, I was trying to please everybody so much that I wasn’t being true to myself.
That was very paralyzing because I was always in fear of making the wrong move, so most of the time, I made no move at all. Everything was put under a microscope to make sure it was as perfect as possible to avoid being judged and\or rejected. Listen, I heard this quote and it changed my whole outlook: “You can be the ripest, juiciest peach in the world, and there’s still going to be somebody who hates peaches.”
You can’t control people liking you and you’ll go crazy trying to gain the approval of others. Some people just won’t like you for no reason and thats okay. It’s so much easier just being yourself no matter what. The people who are supposed to be there will find you. Also for the people that don’t like you, that’s their loss, not yours.
Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Okay, so! I like to do everything. I get bored easily so I’m always jumping from thing to thing. I usually share my current obsessions on my YouTube channel or Instagram. You can most usually find me drawing or painting, rollerskating, singing/writing music, playing video games, making vlogs, or playing the guitar/piano. I want to start crocheting and most recently I’ve been indulging in yoga! Like I said, you can find me doing most of these on my YouTube channel! Also, I’m trying to expand my list of hobbies so if you have something cool that you do, let me know!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Oh my gosh! AAAA I know a lot of good food places, so we’ll be eating A LOT. If you want a delicious old fashioned burger I recommend Keller’s Drive-in or Porky’s Burgers & Wings. If you like asian food there’s a cute place in Carrollton called Frankseoul. They serve korean hotdogs. The ones with cheese are my favorite! On that same strip is a revolving sushi place and it is so good! It’s called Kura Revolving Sushi Bar. My favorite from that place is the Tiger Roll. On that same strip is a really cute bakery with delicious breads and also boba! I feel like I’m going on and on about food so I’ll stop here, haha.
At some point, the friend and I will have to get boba! I like going to Kung Fu Tea but specifically the one in Arlington because it is always decorated so cute in there! Plus there’s a second story with books and games and it’s perfect for photo ops.
I definitely have to mention: My favorite crystal shop is ALSO a yoga studio! I will be dragging my friend along to do some hot sauna yoga with me at Sacred Stonez in duncanville! They’ve been doing this $5 hot yoga class deal (I believe until the end of 2023) so there’s no excuse!
Regardless of the yoga, I love shopping at Sacred Stonez. It’s a black woman owned crystal shop (the same woman owns the yoga studio!) with so many great spirituality things in there. I’m ALWAYS blowing a bag in there so I need to make sure my friend has money. It’s too tempting haha.
Last thing, If it’s a Thursday, the friend and I HAVE to stop by Southern Skates roller rink for adult night. That skating rink has been there since I was a baby so the memories are vast! It’s a good vibe and it’s usually packed. That is, if the Dallas Cowboys aren’t playing that night. I mostly want to go because I need to show off my skating skills hahah.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Well, I really want to shoutout a book! It’s called The Artist’s Way by Julia Cameron. It changed my life, I’m not kidding. I would recommend this book to anybody, artist or not. The book is a 12 week workshop focused on unblocking your inner artist and unlocking your creativity.
It’s really interesting in the way that it connects spirituality and artistry. When I was reading the book, it felt like Julia Cameron was speaking directly to me. That made me feel like I’m not so alone on my journey as an artist. All artists go through these exact same problems? There’s a way to feel better about these specific things? This sounds dramatic, I know, but it’s such a life changing book. If there’s something you’ve been wanting to do for a very long time… be it write a book, become an actor, start playing the piano, stream on twitch, go back to school, but you’ve been convincing yourself otherwise due to fear or excuses like you’re too old, not talented enough, or there’s no point, please give this book a read.
I’ve done the full 12 weeks twice on different occasions and you’ll be surprised at how fast it works. I still do the “Morning Pages” task everyday and it’s been 2 years since I’ve found the book! I’m always telling everybody to read it. I’ve even given the book as a gift. My friends and family are tired of hearing about it hahaha.
