We had the good fortune of connecting with Sarah Meduna and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sarah, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
As a self-proclaimed workaholic, work/life balance has always been somewhat difficult for me. When you own your own business, it becomes nearly impossible to “turn off” your business brain and “leave work at work.” In some ways, this has been helpful for me – I am always thinking about how to improve and do my best work. However, it can also be challenging in those seasons when I am burning the candle at both ends and thus starting to burn myself out. I can always feel when that is happening, so over time, I have gotten much better at recognizing this and actually doing something about it so I can recharge. When I focus on a solid work/life balance, I am better able to serve my clients and team, which is all that matters in the long-run!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am the luckiest girl in the world because I get to bring people’s dream weddings to life every single day. Not a day goes by when I am not grateful for the trust my clients put in me, which is what I think sets me apart from so many other planners and designers out there. Tons of people can create beautiful things, but you can’t teach or coach the love and care my team and I have for our clients. It is in my blood to care for my clients deeply, as I would my own sisters or best friends. They feel this love from the very beginning of our relationship, and it makes a huge difference as we work together to create a day unlike anything they ever could have dreamt of.

Starting my own wedding planning business was far from easy. Because I am originally from Nebraska and plan to move back with my husband one day, I actually started Styled in White in two different markets at once – Dallas and Omaha. Marketing myself in both places, traveling back and forth constantly (on my own dime, I might add), learning all of the vendors and pricing and trends, and building two teams 650 miles apart was incredibly challenging. Add on the general stress of starting up a small business from nothing, and you can begin to get the picture! But nothing beats work ethic and a person so dedicated to succeeding that they refuse to give up until they get where they are going. I have found that what is most important is to meet each challenge with a positive attitude, and more importantly, don’t be afraid to ask questions!!! I have called other planners and industry professionals countless times when I didn’t know what to do. I don’t have it all figured out, and I never will – but I will never pretend to, and that is a huge strength when it comes to learning and growing in business.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m a Nebraska girl, so I would definitely show them the Fort Worth stockyards! I love going down here because it kind of transports you back to another time and gives you a taste of the Wild West. In the stockyards, I recommend shopping at Maverick and grabbing a drink at one of the saloons. Then, head to lunch or dinner at Joe T. Garcia’s for some incredible Mexican food (and the best margaritas!). In Dallas, I think Bishop Arts is a fun district to do brunch and boutique shopping. I also love the AT&T design district – the architecture there is stunning! Dallas is known for its food, so I would say just to come hungry! TexMex and BBQ are musts, but you also can’t miss a good steakhouse like Town Hearth. And if you are looking for a craft cocktail, go to Tipsy Alchemist in the Harwood District!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are hundreds of people I could thank for playing a role in my success. In my personal life, my #1 cheerleader and supporter has always been my husband, Alex. Without him, I never would have started Styled in White! He is constantly pushing me to be my best and also reminding me when to slow down and take care of myself. He’s the best partner a girl could ask for! Professionally, I have always looked up to and admired Andrea Eppolito. I was lucky enough to find her Instagram page at the very beginning of my business, and since then, I have consumed every piece of content she puts out from her Instagram to her YouTube to her book and podcast. She is an incredible leader in the wedding industry and a huge inspiration to all women in business.
