We had the good fortune of connecting with Brittany Long and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brittany, how do you think about risk?
Taking risks is a vital part to every business. Even to start A business you must take a calculated risk to jump off the edge when everyone tells you not to go. Taking risks has always played a huge role in my life and business. When Turfboss started in 2016 my family had it all. My husband was a flight medic at Careflite making great money and I had great success as a hospitality manager in a successful restaurant my whole career was ahead of me. It was a huge risk to leave my successful career behind to take a devastating pay cut and go out to compete in the landscaping industry. Which is overrun and ruled by men making it three times harder as a woman to be successful.
It was a huge risk to start Turfboss there were a lot of tough times for my family especially my daughter who had to stand by and take lesser lifestyle so that I could chase my dreams of being an entrepreneur and business owner.
If it weren’t for these risks our family would not be at the level of success that we are today.
Risk are part of the program it is required for anyone that wants to be successful no matter what the Adventure is.
What should our readers know about your business?
Turfboss is a landscaping business 10 years in the making located in North Dallas. The biggest challenges were letting go of a great career to focus on being a small business owner knowing it would be hard on our family. The best biggest two challenges in this industry? Being a women in a man run industry and winning jobs over the competition. As a lady in green you have to know 100 times more than the next man to prove yourself. Second challenges is employee retention this is something the whole world faces. Turfboss has overcome this by brining each and every team member in as family not just an employee.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my BFF came to town I would take them to our ranch first and show them the ranch life . Followed by a dinner at the Local Yocal a restaurant hot spot speciality’s steak grown right here in Mckinney TX.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The shout out should be dedicated to my loving husband Robert Long and my amazing daughter Natalia Long. When we started Turfboss I went through a terrible accident and almost went blind I was in the hospital for several months and my family used every last penny to get me corrective surgery. So I could see my daughter again. After so many years it’s still brings so much heaviness to my heart.
For the pain that my family had a bare.
After almost a year of recovery my family stood by me as we start Turfboss.
So that I could take it back of my life and spend time with my family and never ask my daughter to want for anything ever again.
In 2023 we have a beautiful thriving business and family of 5.
We live on a beautiful ranch in Blue Ridge Texas getting to not only run our awesome landscaping business but start a second business Desert creek regenerative Ranching offering farm to table meats.
None of my life would’ve been possible without what I went through and what my family went through. All the hurt and pain that my family bared during that time was worth it 1000% over. I owe this dedication and my entire life to these two amazing people.
