We had the good fortune of connecting with Lisa Montano and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lisa, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
When I began making badge reels, I never imagined it turning into a small business. It was something that I was doing for fun. My youngest daughter started her own small business and that is what made me consider starting my own. I wanted to do something that no one was doing in my area. I wanted to bring something fresh and creative to catch people’s attention.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
It definitely has NOT been easy. When we first began, I had a lot of help from my oldest daughter because she worked from home twice a week and would come over during her free time. The orders started to come in slowly, and we were able to keep up. Now, my daughter is a social worker and is not able to help me as much as before.  I love bringing everyone’s ideas and visions to life but doing it with less help has become a challenge. Both of my daughters help as much as they can in their free time, and when it’s all three of us, we can get orders out the door pretty quickly. Balancing roles as a mother and businesswoman can be demanding.  I currently work full-time with a company I have been with for over 12 years and have two children who are involved in extracurricular activities. In the evenings and weekends, I work on my small business. It’s not easy having to learn how to balance my work life with my social life and still have time to sit back and relax.

All that being said and done, I do not regret starting the way we did. We have learned so many things and have met so many great people along the way. We take pride in our work and we make each one with love. Our business is a family business and we love interacting and making our customers feel like part of our family. We love to bring their ideas and customizations to life. We absolutely LOVE being a small business.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Being new to the area, we like to explore new restaurants. We would probably start somewhere on Magnolia street in Fort Worth for brunch. Afterwards, we would travel to the Fort Worth Stockyards and watch the cattle drive. For the night, we would stay on 7th street in Downtown Fort Worth and visit all the unique bars such as Pour Decisions and Your Mom’s House.  The speakeasies, Dirty Laundry and Bodega are also fun to hangout at.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My family. Without their help and encouragement, I wouldn’t be where I am today. They have continued to support me in all my crazy ideas and new projects that I bring to the table. They support my craft shows and events, and are always ready to help.
